Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack: On January 18th, BoxOfficePro predicted a $25M to $35M opening weekend for Madame Web, with $56M to $101M total for the Domestic Box office. On their February 23rd long range forecasts, those numbers remain unchanged. https://www.boxofficepro.com/long-range-box-office-forecast-bob-marley-one-love-madame-web-and-the-chosen-season-4-episodes-4-6/ https://www.boxofficepro.com/long-range-box-office-forecast-demon-slayer-kimetsu-no-yaiba-to-the-hashira-training-and-ordinary-angels/ On February 8th, they lowered those predictions to only $15M to $24M opening weekend, and $42M to $78M domestic box office total. Apparently, Madame Web is getting released on Wednesday this week. I'm not sure if that means it gets Tuesday night previews or not. What it likely does mean is that it won't be getting those previews added to its opening weekend total as per usual, so when BoxOfficePro is making that prediction for only the 3-day weekend I'm not sure if they're lowering their prediction based off of the absence of your typical Thursday night preview numbers not being added to the Friday total or not either. Tons of variables on this one.

Quote:Recent releases based on characters from Marvel and DC Comics (see: "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," "The Marvels," "Black Adam," and "Aquaman 2") have failed to strike the box office gold or public approval that their predecessors did. After years of hitting the gas pedal and never letting up, both comic conglomerates are taking a hint and rethinking their strategies after a string of failures. Marvel is reprioritizing quality over quantity; "Deadpool 3" is the studio's only MCU film scheduled for release this year. Meanwhile, writer-director James Gunn and Peter Safran are deep in the trenches rebooting the DC Extended Universe since taking over as the heads of Warner Bros. Discovery's DC Studios in 2022.

Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack (February 15th): Box Office Pro's 6 DAY prediction is now $18M-$28M. So even with the early Valentine's Day release and the benefit of Washington's Birthday on Monday, the previous predictions from February 8th that said nothing about the 6-day and just referred to it as opening weekend were $7 Million higher than they are today. https://www.boxofficepro.com/weekend-box-office-forecast-bob-marley-one-love-madame-web-and-the-chosen-season-4-episodes-4-6-open-for-long-holiday-frame/ Sony has one saving throw here, however... Somehow, this movie only cost $80 Million to make. I have heard jokes that it's a super hero movie without a super hero though, and that the costume is only worn once, late into the film. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this movie doesn't have a lot of CGI in it. With how bad CGI has been lately with rare exception, that's probably another point in its favor. This thing still has to make $200 Million to break even though. Morbius only made $162 Million on a $75 Million budget in 2022, and this one is tracking much worse and seems to be hated a lot more, so I'm thinking that Blue Beetle numbers on this should be considered a huge win for Sony right now. My guess is it makes less than $100 Million worldwide. This could be the biggest superhero flop since 2004's Catwoman, which made $82 Million on a $100 Million budget.

Quote:Will there be a Madame Web 2? No sequel has been officially greenlit yet, although Dakota Johnson has stated in interviews that she would "definitely" return if she was asked back. However, the film has had something of a mixed reception, with critics panning its uneven tone and at-times bizarre acting choices, and some viewers loving it for all those things, as it hearkens back to the less self-serious comic book movies of the time period in which it is set. Still, reviews aside, if the box office figures say differently, a sequel is not out of the question. Sony is continuing to build out its series of connected, Spider-Man adjacent movies, with Kraven the Hunter and a third Venom installment both scheduled to be released later this year. And Madame Web director S.J. Clarkson has hinted that the three young Spider-Women depicted in the movie will go on to have further on-screen adventures, although whether that is in a Madame Web 2 or their own spinoff movie remains

If you learn Mandarin you will never need to watch another woke Hollywood movie and never read English subtitles ever again. Bonus, the Chinese dialogue in Firefly will be comprehensible and you will laugh at Jewel Staite's and Nathan Fillion's weird Canadian accent when speaking Chinese in Firefly. Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack: Bruce says Madame Web is going to gross $6.59 Million this weekend for a 57% drop. I call bullshit. The Marvels fell 74% on the 2nd weekend. Granted, The Marvels grossed as much on its 2nd weekend as Madame Web did in its first weekend, so it doesn't need to do a whole lot of business not to fall as far. The Marvels fell 50% in its 3rd weekend. I'm going to split the difference and call it a 62% drop for Madame Web's second weekend, and say it doesn't clear $6 Million.
Quote:Right now, Spider-Man clairvoyant Madame Web is showing a -64% second frame drop (which is bad though not as atrocious as Marvels -78% second weekend freefall or Sony/Marvel’s Morbius‘ -74%) with an estimated $5.56M in 4th place at 4,013 theaters after a $1.5M Friday. She’ll stand at $35M by Sunday. Still, both Marvels and Morbius look like crowdpleasers next to Madame Web respectively at $84.5M and $73.8M domestic finals.

Quote:Dune: Part Two As previously highlighted, the 2021 adaptation was a critical and commercial success with $108.9 million domestically and $433.8 million worldwide despite a simultaneous streaming release during the early phases of pandemic recovery, with Covid still a significant concern among some audiences. Dune: Part Two‘s pre-sales have dwarfed Part One‘s through the same point before release by over 116 percent according to various models. Drivers include the film’s stellar reviews (97 percent from 182 Rotten Tomatoes critics as of Wednesday morning), goodwill gleaned from its predecessor, pent-up demand for a theatrical event film, and the rising star power of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, who topline the film alongside a strong ensemble cast.

Quote:"What of the Fremen?" Jessica asked. "The Fremen are mine," Paul said. “What they receive shall be dispensed by Muad'Dib. It'll begin with Stilgar as Governor on Arrakis, but that can wait." "And for me?" Jessica asked. "Is there something you wish?" "Perhaps Caladan," she said, looking at Gurney. “I'm not certain. I've become too much the Fremen ... and the Reverend Mother. I need a time of peace and stillness in which to think." "That you shall have," Paul said, "and anything else that Gurney or I can give you." Jessica nodded, feeling suddenly old and tired. She looked at Chani. “And for the royal concubine?" "No title for me," Chani whispered. “Nothing. I beg of you." Paul stared down into her eyes, remembering her suddenly as she had stood once with little Leto in her arms, their child now dead in this violence. “I swear to you now," he whispered, "that you'll need no title. That woman over there will be my wife and you but a concubine because this is a political thing and we must weld peace out of this moment, enlist the Great Houses of the Landsraad. We must obey the forms. Yet that princess shall have no more of me than my name. No child of mine nor touch nor softness of glance, nor instant of desire." "So you say now," Chani said. She glanced across the room at the tall princess. "Do you know so little of my son?" Jessica whispered. “See that princess standing there, so haughty and confident. They say she has pretensions of a literary nature. Let us hope she finds solace in such things; she'll have little else.” A bitter laugh escaped Jessica. “Think on it, Chani: that princess will have the name, yet she'll live as less than a concubine -- never to know a moment of tenderness from the man to whom she's bound. While we, Chani, we who carry the name of concubine -- history will call us wives."

Quote:This time little of Herbert’s more unpleasant characterization made it to the screen but in the novel, Baron Harkonnen – an incestuous pedophile – is the only gay character in the series. And everything about the Baron is designed to be as repulsive as possible to a contemporary reader so that he would be singled out as the most cartoonishly villainous character out of the book’s antagonists. His physical appearance is described as “grossly and immensely fat” with “suspensors” under his robes to actually hold up his flesh, making him yet another fat villain demonized for their weight. Herbert contrasts the Baron’s large body with the young and lithe slaveboys that he lusts after and exploits, in order to further drive home the horror of him using his immense power over them.
