This was a good Sci-Fi film. Actually, better than good. I can't remember at the moment if there has been a better Sci-Fi film this year, or last year, or since Free Guy 2 years ago. Free Guy was better, mostly due to the Spectacle nature of that work.

I was not planning to see it, but it was at a time slot when I wanted to watch a movie and it fit for me.
I assume whoever marketed this film did a lousy job of it. If I saw ads for it, they did nothing to pique my interest. I saw 2 unknown actors listed for it, and all the recognizable players and names were absent from what I'd read.

I was under the impression that it would be a LOT more bland than what it was.

It was a bit harsh at times, like the end of Rogue One. That is not a complaint. It was sorta like a newer version of Blade Runner. Maybe a little like Alita: Battle Angel. Parts like Hanna. Reminded me of Midnight Special, or the TV Miniseries Believe. A little bit of Total Recall. Possibly The Fifth Element.

I really enjoyed it, but I might need to see it again, I likely missed some stuff. I'll see it in cinema again - the screen is filled with action, and maybe I should seat farther back from the screen.

I need to give it more than 3 Stars, maybe 4 or 4.5 Stars out of 5.

Score is by Hans Zimmer.

I do recommend to anybody who loves Science Fiction.
The underlying premise, really the setting, is there is a war between humans and "A.I" aka cyborgs, robots, synthetics. Almost sounds like it should be similar to BSG, but it is not.

I was thinking that one character was played by Josh Lucas, but I didn't see his name in credits.

Yeah. I don't think they marketed this thing much at all. I didn't even know about it until Bruce put out his article on theater counts this week, and then I only knew that it was sci-fi and not another religious movie because he put a tiny blurb in there on what it was about.

Sounds right up my alley. I'll have to watch it with my dad. I'm sure he'll like it.

If it felt like Rogue One, that's not surprising. It was directed by Gareth Edwards who directed Rogue One, as well as 2010's Monsters. I don't remember much of Monsters, but I'm pretty sure I liked it.

A movie selling fake metal and plastic and wants you to cheer for humanity destruction and yet

It sounds off or too much paint by numbers. There is so much stealth marketing now and I have wasted so much time on movies I need a good 9 out of 10 or 5 out of 5 stars or maybe 4 point 5 before I waste my time...unless it follows some other rule and its a good B-movie with 'funny'
Sometimes it is painful to get politically lectured in films.

Not really a strong recommendation I need to hear or read...

This Was a GREAT Scifi Movie!!!

It looks or sounds like something Tessa Thompson, Spike Lee, Bernie Sanders, Sean Penn and Fareed Zakaria could have stared in but with a huge spending bag and even bigger budget.

So listening to online social media reviews and this thread it seems like its basically Robo BLM - A.I thingy and Antifa mixed with some Star Wars and Samurai stuff but America and Whitey is bad so let's have a BLM Robobot revolution, a new Antifa world!
the multi-ctural the islamo kid a cyber-child somehow the key to revolt against an advanced oppressive White USA Euro-like government that somehow gets defeated by a mixed-multi-cucktural islamic transexual jihadi primitive James Cameron style Avatar resistance...not sure it sounds watchable...if it has some 'Jokes'? Laughs at itself??

Movies today have way too much of the dumb 'politics' messages
I think I might stay with Korean tv shows

Thanks for the heads up, not sure I will bother with this one even if its online for free and I normally watch any type of B-movie scifi crap.
Hollyweird I'm not sure if its the politics, sound or color pallet or 'messages' is just kind of tiresome for me to watch now.

Hans Zimmer is great though so I will check out the soundtrack, nota ll his films are perfect, he did some 'Justice League' music a good score but to a bad movie.

There have been no films these past yeas yet alone scifi films and Free Guy kinda sucked but at least it was 'funny', if you can not be a great film at least be 'funny' the comedy element helps pass when they do not entertain, it will pass the awkward clunky weird moments.
'Idiocracy' is another one of those its kind of dumb but works because it is very funny, if you can't say something at least put in jokes try to entertain.
If you remove the Superhero Genre, Bond and StarWars bla bla and political messages then Hard scifi has truly been dying for a long time

Movies these past years since Covid and Avengers End Game
We had Barbie, Oppenheimer, the Mortal Kombat thing, Moon Man a Chinese comedy? the Mario thing...Top Gun (not scifi) and Spider-Man No Way Home? which is back into the superhero comicbook genre thing...what is next, Birds of Prey, Black Widow, Sonic?
a few that went under the radar like the Betty Gilpin, Craig Zobel comedy-ish the horror thriller film The Hunt, but there is mostly no scifi.

The Superhero genre is dead and scifi...maybe also gone.
I think Scifi already died it might have already peaked and been in decline with 'Matrix' or District 9...and District 9 isn't really a Hollywood film.
Also in the past they took risks they wrote new material, Dark City, South Korean film like The Host, Fantastic Planet, They Live, Blade Runner, The Thing remake by Carpenter, Save the Green Planet, District 9, The Terminator, Dark Star, 1982 Tron, Alien, Westworld, 1990 Total Recall, they might fund a remake since the already marketing brand name is known to the public, but they would never fund an original again...the genre of true scifi is also dead, the best thing upcoming will probably be a remake of a Scifi from Communist China, the West is in a period of regression and looks to China for new art that's how fuckedup it is culturally.

Idiocracy
It is a great movie ...BUT...if you took away its silly fun, its unique American movie humor US culture of self commentary, its jokes...

However if you took out all the Jokes what movie is left behind in 'Idiocracy' as a topic. What would you have to film on screen with your reel and tapes and digital camera, maybe a posh Canadian, some US Chess playing champ, A German Nazi or Chinese of High IQ Jew of High IQ or some guy wakes up played by Christopher Lee, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, he is surrounded by Rednecks, Rappers, Mad Max Scavengers, the 'Morlock'
the smart guy says he Weeps for the Future,
there is a little of Orwell 1984 in there and Aldous Huxley
he is thrown in jail and gets out
they give the new old man no longer in hibernation the job to Lead Earth because Earth has been de-evolving with increasingly more stupid generations.

if you took the comedy away from Idiocracy perhaps you would feel like you were getting lectured
Etan Cohen, Mike Judge ares skilled at entertainment and movies, the Actors cast are great but if you sucked out all its comedy what is left behind

it would be a weird horror scifi maybe

If you think about it the movie a government hibernation experiment is a bit like Planet of the Apes or is basically HG Wells 'The Time Machine' but with slightly political commentary Self-sustainability, maybe a series of comments on Media or Greed but disguised as mostly a wall of comedy and it is good comedy. I think even an annoying sounding new movie like 'The Creator' can save itself if it can have some comedy moments

I might give the Creator a skip and just watch Rogue One again.

Creator some reviews are somewhat Happy and Positive but A LOT of Negative Stuff is coming out

Let's have a lot at reviews
One of them even mentions Elysium and Golden-Child as I suspected from trailers

https://rogersmovienation.com/2023/09/29/movie-review-the-creator-make

As the picture careens around towards its anti-climactic climax, one really does wonder about the point of it all.

Review: ‘The Creator’ is bad sci-fi and ludicrous propaganda for AI

https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/movies-tv/the-creator-review-18390228

If you aren’t reading the words “John David Washington” with an involuntary “Uh oh” on your lips these days, you haven’t been paying attention to the parade of piffle this most famous of “nepo babies” has turned up in since “BlackKklansman.” He’s not a bad actor, no matter how little training he got. He’s just a consistently uninteresting one, no matter how handsome he might be.
If he’s starring in the movie, it means they couldn’t get anybody better to take the lead.
And here he is, giving another colorless leading man turn in a movie that desperately could use a big dose of charisma, which only mean-Ms. Janney and noble-but-underwritten “Sim” leader Ken Watanabe provide.
Clumsy efforts like make one wonder if AI editing software wouldn’t have asked a lot of questions and demanded better results than this screenplay delivers.

The sleight of hand is audacious. Suffice it to say, Edwards actually wants us to buy his story as a tale of AI liberation. Seriously? You know how creepy it is when Siri starts talking when you haven’t even said anything to her? Imagine Siri sitting at your kitchen table, wanting to kill you.

And yet, viewers may fall for this. On the night I saw the movie, the audience was cheering at the sight of robots killing human soldiers. When you see something like that, it makes you wonder. Maybe the species doesn’t deserve to survive.

‘The Creator’ Review: Gareth Edwards’ Robot Uprising Is Made of Old Stereotypes and Recycled Parts
https://variety.com/2023/film/reviews/the-creator-review-1235729849/
The footage of a near-future war between America and anyone caught developing AI looks stunning, but isn't enough to save a derivative plot about a cute child-like robot that might also be a superweapon

The Creator
https://aisleseat.com/the-creator.html
The problem with sophisticated visual effects is that they allow filmmakers to focus on world-building at the expense of storytelling. Gareth Edwards’ The Creator demonstrates that idea in action. This sci-fi epic cost a relatively minimal $80 million yet looks leagues better than most of the Marvel movies, which often cost upwards of $200 million. To say it’s dazzling up on a big screen would be an understatement. The story, however, is cobbled together from bits and pieces of other sci-fi epics, leading to an experience that’s visually awesome and dramatically flat.

But “The Creator” is the worst yet. It’s a combination of ridiculous science fiction, featuring simulants that need to eat and sleep, and demented propaganda. If you take the movie seriously — and it wants to be taken seriously — “The Creator” is basically saying we should surrender to the robots, even ones that kill people, especially if they have good manners or take the shape of a little kid.

John David Washington plays an ex-soldier protecting a robot child in Gareth Edwards’s futuristic film, which sees the U.S. military out to destroy artificial-intelligence technology in Asia.

Edwards clunkily balances serious notions of what it means to be human with impressive, explosive action sequences, as “The Creator” keeps going and going with multiple endings. By the time Joshua finds himself risking his life amid a massive, climactic set piece, you may find yourself wondering what exactly he’s doing there, so convoluted is the film’s logic. Despite the film's early promise, you might wonder ultimately what you’re doing there, too.

Oh sure...

Idiocracy would have to be some sort of Orwellian horror movie if it weren't a comedy.

I actually don't know if it could work if it wasn't a comedy. I don't think it would be very popular at all. Certainly not as popular as it has become over the years.

I misread what you originally said. I thought you were saying that without comedy Idiocracy had nothing to say.

Obviously, Saving Private Ryan was a total Laugh-fest.

And Patton was a total gut-buster, major funny there.

Of course, Platoon was Hi-Larious, a laugh a minute.

Perhaps I should clarify my recommendation.

Do you realize that the whole plot is summarized in both the movie trailer and the wiki for the movie? ("What do you want, Sweetie?" "For robots to be free." "Oh, we don't have that in the frig. How about ice cream?" ) There is zero Marxism, unless ice cream and freeing the slave/robots is Marxism in your opinion. Maybe it is Marxism? Marxism focuses on struggles between capitalists and working-class robots.

The word robot derives from the Czech word “robota,” or forced labor, as done by serfs. Its Slavic linguistic root, “rab,” means “slave.” Is that too complicated to grasp for you, 6ix?

Is it a spoiler to tell you that the littlest robot gets both ice cream and freedom?

and that's another thing, outside of the Revolution, the Bolshevism Robo Social Communistic Robotic uprising against bad humans ...the Trailer gives it all away...or almost all of it...maybe

Why spoil? I feel Almost the entire plot is given away by the trailer....not all because I am unsure if it also wants to be a Vietnam commentary. Give all the story away? but with a trailer with so many spoilers it seems like they are desperate to trying to tempt with flash bang fx and drama moments and by exposing too much they try way too hard to lure and get more ass into those cinema seats.
Now I will admit I do not know all about the film from the movie, maybe it also has a comment on South Vietnam officially the Republic of Vietnam or the 'Korean War'? It seems to have an Asian Oriental theme going through not just a Black African Slave Analogy.
Why have a trailer that not just spoils almost the entire plot??? the movie trailer not just showing a single movie idea but the entire movie was just completely spoiled by them, including plot twists.
They spoil because the seduction of a spoiler makes money!

Something went wrong with trailers in the age of the internets, they used to be 'teasers' now I know I'm sounding like an old timer, I a person who can remember VHS and cinema before streaming but I think it is better when less is more
People still do good trailers today, in the old days you had maybe One-Trailer maybe as much as two for some overseas place in Europe/Japan but you mostly had a single trailer and it did not give away the entire plot
Se7en 1995 Trailer is very well done- Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman
Battle Los Angeles a great example of how music elevates but the trailer is better than movie
The Village good trailer but a weird movie
10,000 BC good trailer but a dumb movie
Beatles Music and 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' good trailer silly movie
Avengers Age Of Ultron is an example of a good trailer but its a poor movie
Star Wars The Phantom Menace another good trailer but not so good film
Bad trailers
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness it spoils the whole movie
The Creator Trailer I think maybe it gives away the whole movie
Morbius Trailer the Vampire thing from spider-Man comics, gives away the movie
Batman V. Superman literally gave away all of the whole movie
Terminator Genysis the Trailer gave away all the movie
The Batman the Trailer spoils the Riddler getting caught

at the end of it all its about cinema cash, the DVD sales are gone, HD Blu-Ray no more and empirical evidence that movie trailers that spoil the movie bring in a bigger audience

We clearly see the world differently, I have refrained from calling you a completefuckingmoron and accepted you are different
even though you said little Bush would bring democracy to the jihads of Asscrackistan, you continued to kiss the anus of little Bush while the US Economy was full on crashing back in 2007 and the both the US and World economy crashing in 2008, 2009
You also for some strange reason a few times described the senile RonnieFuckingReagan as a War Hero
I have never called you a Rightwing Retard although you love to use such language of filth against others when they with freedom to vote but vote wrong, not for the guy you want them to vote.

You and I have different life experiences, we have our own eyes and ears and as the world moves fast our brains will process the world differently but looking at the Trailer there is Very Little in this movie for me, you might see something special about Robots and Freeing Slaves and Bush and Reagan.
and its not just me with this opinion, I have seen the trailer but others have watched the movie and its hundreds of people online trashing it and dozens upon dozens of well respected critics. Not all dislike it, the movie has fans but it has A LOT of critics They all dislike the movie.

For all I know you with your own unique eyes and brain might see something in this movie about little George Bush or RonnieRay helping Robot-FreeDumbs or freeing the Blacks Slaves or you might see something about Free Speech or Vietnam but I see nothing that makes me watch, I see little in this film that would appeal to me.
As SixString says an 'agenda movie with a shiny sci-fi wrapper on it'
Those are his words not mine but I do think it is 'More of the Same'
I don't know why I don't like it, I am sick of hollyweirdo. Maybe it will take a very good movie for me to watch Hollyweird trash and perhaps I have other issues with the film like I think its also maybe too cliche.
You will see the world different. Maybe you see a message from 43rd president Bush jnr and God or you see "Reaganomics" deregulation, see something about the Middle East, religion wars, you see something about oppressed Jews and Israel the Chosen People and Palestinian Arabs, maybe the robot says soemthing that inspires you like Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu an Israeli politician inspires you with his kickass speeches?
Your only true selling point for this film to me is that its a cut and copy and more scissors and paste of other movies, you say Terminator, BSG, Alita, Hanna, Midnight Special, Blade Runner.

Midnight Special btw was a flop and a Low Rated movie, Blade Runner and Terminator are high rated films...but then you are unsure to give it 3 out of 5 or 4.5 out of 5 or go back to 3 out of Five? You think its higher than 3?

above 60% but you can not decide???

For me to watch something that looks so cliche by the trailer a score a little above 6/10 is not good enough

Blade Runner and Terminator are well respected movies, they are ranked far higher.

Admittedly the Cinema experience is unique with big flashing explosion and surround sound will add to any experience
ultimately a Trailer which Spoils the entire film and is better than the movie itself?
but if you really want an honest review I can take an hour and a half out of one of my days or weeks, watch this film and put my honest review here
if you really want me to review it I can come back in a while I probably will have a look around in a few weeks, I won't be going on a drive to the cinema won't be paying for popcorn a cinema ticket

Yeah. I only watch trailers for movies I have no interest in watching. I like going into a movie knowing nothing about it, if possible, and as you said, trailers today are just spoilerfests.

Making good trailers is a form of art in itself. It appears to be dead today. I think the trailers get made by committee today for the reasons you stated above.

My gripe back in the day was the lies in the trailers. When they'd put lines in the movie that were never in the movie itself. That seems like such a minor complaint today when they reveal all the plot points in a trailer.

a financial flop?

Although some cult hits also flopped so this does not mean its a bad movie but I think maybe from looking at the trailer it is a bad movie

Quote:

The Creator's run is hardly finished. It still grossed $575k on Cheap Seat Tuesday this week, and there's a pretty good chance it grosses over $1 Million at least one day this weekend, or will come very close to that.

But 2 weeks from now it will be making pennies, and a few million here or there isn't going to save it from being a huge flop. If it's EXTREMELY lucky, after international numbers are finally settled it grosses $120 Million worldwide. However, my guess is somewhere in the $95 to $100 Million range when it exits theaters.

It's not looking good. With the $80 Million budget it needs to make $160 to $200 Million to break even, and it's only got $90 Million after this weekend, only grossing $2.6 Million over the weekend in the United States.

I haven't been paying enough attention to this one specifically to know if internationals had been added since I wrote that. We should have a better picture of where it lands in the next day or two once we know for sure where the international numbers are at.

6ix, I don't know why you don't know this but somehow I don't think Haken will be responding. Did you know that Serenity did approximately as poorly at the movie theaters as The Creator when prices are adjusted for inflation?

Just putting it out there because you're a dildo.

Serenity sucked. I'm not surprised it failed.

Per Bruce at the-numbers, The Creator exited the theaters in the US today.

$99,182,629 Worldwide take with $40,774,679 of that coming from the US Box Office.

On an $80M budget, it made 124% of its budget back.

A small amount of money will probably still trickle in over the next month or so and bring this over $100M worldwide, but this is another $100 Million loss for Disney through its 20th Century Studios brand.
