They were already flushing this woke turd down the toilet before it even started.

Despite that, it looks like it is going to under-perform even the lowest of expectations in its first weekend.

Who would have guessed?

Clearly, it wasn't made for me.

I kinda wonder, but not much, if these gals think that Captain Marvel was more in line with what they were expecting, or that they MUST make these super woke movies and that, eventually as we evolve, they'll be seen as the true masterpieces that they really are, and not the current day box office disasters that made them zero money?

According to Ewan McGreggor it was made exactly for you. THIS is the movie that was going to teach all of us toxic males how toxic we are and that our turn is over.

I think somebody forgot that Harley Quinn is not a good guy.

Sounds to me like they took that deleted scene from Captain Marvel and made a whole movie out of it.

Oh, and the laughably titled Gretel and Hansel almost slips under the radar completely for how miserable a failure it was with the woke push too.

Eventually these dumb shits are going to learn the lesson.

Nah. Wish I were though. Get some of that sweet, sweet ad revenue so I wouldn't have to work a shitty part time job.

He's actually the dude that I warned against saying that Episode 9 hadn't broken 1 Billion over (whichever weekend it was... I think it was the third???) because the results from a lot of the non-domestic countries had been several days behind and hadn't posted the weekend results yet and it was way too close to call. I thought he was being hasty and in the case that he was proven wrong on that I thought it would hurt their credibility.

We never did get a definitive answer about that, BTW. By the time those countries finally got around to submitting their new numbers, many of the top 10 regions already updated theirs with Monday and Tuesday's results for the following week on top of the US Domestic BO.

I was actually surprised that Disney didn't force the bump for cred. I think by that time they had already made the decision to just quietly let this movie die.

It's kind of funny looking at the charts. It was a crazy mad dash to $1 Billion, and then nothing... It's only made less than $60 Million worldwide in over 4 weeks after it hit a billion.

Since the beginning of Hollywood, more than 50% of movies are failures. 6ix, I am beginning to think you don’t understand that has nothing to do with being "woke":

The woke turds are a near 100% failure rate in the last four years, so that throws your theory right out the window, white knight.

How many comic book movies have been failures in the last decade, other than this one? What's the percentage there? Even just the DC Universe, which is known for putting out pretty mediocre properties outside of Batman movies. Not very high, is it?

The point, which Hollywood seems pretty slow to figure out for some reason, is that being woke almost assures that it will fail in the Box Office.

They should probably drop the propaganda and at least give their movies a fair shake if everything is just a coin toss. (Which a comic book movie in 2020 should never actually be).

Go ahead and show everybody how it's made its production budget back (and hardly scraped the marketing budget). That's cool. But the people who put up money for these things are interested in making money. Not just hoping that they'll make their initial investment back.

Here's a list of the top 50 comic book movies by total gross:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_superhero_films

Number 50 on that list?

The terrible X2, from 2003.
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/X-Men-2-(2003)#tab=summary

Domestic Box Office: $214,949,694 ($324,741,574 adjusted for inflation)
International Box Office: $191,925,842 ($318,963,475 adjusted for inflation)
Worldwide Box Office: $406,875,536 ($676,190,520 adjusted for inflation)

Even if you don't count inflation, Birds of Prey isn't going to come anywhere near the revenue of the 50th placed Comic Book movie that was released 17 years ago when money was worth more.

X2 was awful, and it made that much. If you account for inflation, it made nearly $700 Million in today's dollars, and would move up to number 33 on that list.

X2 proves that you can make a terrible comic book movie and it will still sell a lot of tickets. But Birds of Prey is just more proof that when you add "woke" agendas to it, it's dead before it even hits the theaters.

What Would Mal do ?

I enjoy Margo well enough, but she's not a box office draw for me..if she's in a movie..fine, but I'm not pulling the wallet out, or even my time to watch, just cause she's in it...and for all the movies Marvel franchise has tossed out there, and all the times they've shown DC side how to make a super hero movie, DC folks just can't seem to get it right..or even close... I've watched Suicide Squad 3 times...of the various DC flicks.. it's one of their betters...anything batman/superman post Christian Bale doesn't even play well, tedious, boring fight scenes, etc...so, no...not heading to the theater to see Birds..and if it's a boring night, I might pull it up on itunes come the day...and that'll be even later when it's rental, not buy.
as for Woke... I can't even figure out where to stay in the lines when I color on a Woke coloring book...so I could care less what qualifies as being a sensitive cosmo Beta-boy... I'm just a confessed old school alpha I guess with an incredible wife, 3 daughters and 7 grandaughters who experience support from me, for sports, archery, firearms, musicianship, leadership, science, etc...my world of women have been "woke" , supported, enabled, admired, free, long before "woke" was a thang...

Four days...

Monday's numbers:

$2,160,176 total gross
$510 per theater

To put that in perspective, it took Episode 9 three weeks to drop that low for the per theater average and a full twenty five days to make that small a daily gross.

It took Joker twenty five days to drop that low for both the per theater average and the daily gross.

And there was zero competition this week other than movies that have already been out for three weeks, unless you include Gretel and Hansel that nobody is going to see either.

Looking forward to a big laugh when Sonic the Hedgehog destroys Birds of Prey next week.

I'm not interested in a Sonic movie myself, but I've got to give the people involved in the creation of the movie a lot of credit for listening to the fans and making the redesign. I know that Jim Carrey has been pretty woke in the past, and undoubtedly still is, but due to the nature of this movie it doesn't seem like he's got any reason or even the opportunity to say stupid stuff that will ruin the good will generated after the production team did such extensive redesigns to the titular character.

Wow. You went to see Pikachu? Were you taking kids with you or something, or just really bored that day?

I couldn't tell you a single thing about Pokemon other than all of those kids who had seizures on Japan from watching it before they fixed it when it was brought to the states, and that there were about 100 games made based off of it. Even though the cartoon was really just an advertising vehicle, I'm sure they built up enough "lore" to make some actual movies out of them.

I didn't grow up with a Genesis, but I had a few friends who did and we played a lot of Sonic. There wasn't much story back then with the games, but they've been making Sonic games (that don't get very good reviews) long after we got to the systems where you can make something much more in depth... so maybe there's a lot more to go off of than there was back in the 90's.

Sometimes it's good to have nothing at all to go off of though. People seem to have finally started to come around to Super Mario Bros. the movie and it's developed a cult following. I've always loved that flick, and after the internet came out it was fascinating to learn what a train wreck the production was.

If you get a chance, you should watch this video.

I wonder what the movie would have been like if they straddled that R-Rating line, didn't get cold feet, and went with the original script that Bob Hoskins and others had signed on for.

I have no interest in seeing Sonic. I'm indifferent as to how it does but I do appreciate the effort the studio put to making changes after the initial trailer was panned harshly, for good reason, and then making good w/ the fans.

I hope the fans enjoy their movie.

Say it ain't so...

Wednesday night numbers (Day 6): $1,825,000 total, $431 per theater. I guess the name change didn't help the movie.

To put that into perspective, Episode 9 and Joker didn't see a night below $2 Million until their 5th Monday (Day 25). Episode 9 didn't see a per theater average that low until the same day (Day 25), and Joker didn't see one that low until the following Thursday (Day 28).

To really drive it home, on Day Six, Episode 9 had a per theater average of $7,300, and Joker had a per theater average of $2,197.

Without a ton of challenges coming down the pipe this weekend outside of Sonic, expect them to slash no more than about 1k to 1.2k theaters max and see these per theater average numbers get so bad so quick that they take a bit of the sting out of how embarrassingly fast Episode 9 fell compared to Joker.

LOL

They're going all in on the idea that the name change is all the movie needed.

Not only aren't they going to reduce the number of theaters showing Birds of Prey, but they're not removing a single theater showing it.

It's going to be the widest US release two weeks in a row. It's going to have more theaters in its second week than Sonic will have in its first.

This should be cringe.

It will probably dip below $300 per theater on average during its second week. Something that didn't happen to Episode 9 until Week Four and Joker until Week Five.

I don't know. They might have. Every single movie that comes out with a woman lead is the "first ever female led action movie" according to these NPCs. But you're probably right. None of these fat pink haired weirdos ever actually had a date on Valentine's day, so the concept of a man taking them out to see a movie on VDAY is alien to them and probably didn't cross their minds.

Yeah... that one is crazy, ain't it? Did these NPC's employ Russian twitterbots to put those tweets out there?

BTW... Sonic pulled in nearly $21 million last night, and there's a good chance that is more money than Birds of Prey will make in the entire 4 day weekend.

It's so funny watching the articles coming out claiming that Friday night was a "win" for Birds of Prey. Even with the name change, it was 51% down from opening night. That might be a lower number than is typically expected from a first to second week drop, but they already started at the bottom.

Episode 9 fell 71% from Friday One to Friday Two, but it pulled in just shy of $90 Million on opening night, so of course it did. Joker fell 57% from Friday One to Friday Two, but it pulled in just shy of $40 Million on opening night, so again, of course it did.

Birds of Prey opened with BO numbers that typically reflect Week Two or even Week Three BO numbers. If you look at the percentage fall between weeks of movies like Episode 9 and the Joker beyond the first to second week fall when they've stabilized, a 45% to 55% drop is much more common from Friday to Friday.

I'm interested in seeing how Valentines Day may or may not have effected these numbers as well. Personally, I don't think it's wise for anybody at this point in time to predict the full weekend take for Birds of Prey based off of last night because it was VDAY.

I used to get things like Tickle Me Elmo as presents for girls I dated back in my late teens and early 20's. Most of them would have loved to go see Sonic on VDAY back then. Who knows what kids are into these days. Maybe BoP's Friday numbers were bolstered by the holiday and paint a worse picture than is being assumed right now.

Should know by around noon tomorrow.

The original had "Harley Quinn" at the end of a very long title, so this new title is designed to help people better find the movie when searching for "Harley Quinn."

Not a real fan of Jim Carey, and I don't know who does the voice of Sonic. I played the game a bit in the 90's, but my attention never held on long enough for me to finish the game, I don't think. Or I did, and it was underwhelming. Either way, I'm glad it's doing well.

And James Marsden...what an odd career. Plays Cyclops in those XMen movies, but also shows up in kids movies like HOP and SONIC? Weird.

Wednesday, February 19th's estimates are in.

Total gross: $1,010,000

Per Theater Average: $238

Well.... That took a whole 13 days.

It should also be noted that yesterday likely marks the last day that BoP even clears a million dollars outside of a weekend and possibly Deal Tuesday (if they're lucky).

Thursday night will be the first sub $1 Million night for BoP. (Day 14)

That's something that Episode 9 didn't accomplish until Day 33.

And it took Joker until Day 40 to reach that milestone.

My observation of the criticism about Harley Quinn BOP is that mostly, it's a lame movie. The story isn't compelling or all that interesting.

Secondly, the Birds of Prey aren't respectful of the comic book versions. They come off more as unsexy Cosplay impersonations of BoP. Again, a lack of respect for the 'source material ', by the director, the writers, and actors.

Thirdly, is the SJW nonsense. As much as was talked about how 'woke' and feminist this movie is, it certainly isn't wall to wall misandry. Ewen McGreggor should have kept his big mouth shut about how it's a smack down for misogynist. Much like Tim Miller in Terminator Dark Fate said, before the movie. The woke message isn't what anyone wants to hear. It's not why we buy tickets.

I actually have kind of tuned out of a lot of the criticism these days. It's just not that much fun anymore. Hollywood elites and SJW culture is really hurting right now (and that's undeniably a great thing), but watching guys on youtube say the same thing about every movie (for at least 10 minutes long for maximum ad revenue) is just really getting boring to me.

I'm not saying that they should stop (because I think it's good that constant opposition to this bullshit exists), and I'm not saying that nobody should watch it, but just making an observation that quite a few channels on youtube have "made" themselves because of this phenomena. I doubt very much that many of them will still exist once things change (and they will change, eventually).

At the end of the day though, name five comic book movies that are interesting. The genre is borderline garbage. If we didn't have special effects as advanced as we do now, they wouldn't be doing them. CGI carries 90% of 90% of these movies.

Joker doesn't count. It's a comic book movie in name only, and not comparable to a single other movie in the genre.

Quote:

Secondly, the Birds of Prey aren't respectful of the comic book versions. They come off more as unsexy Cosplay impersonations of BoP. Again, a lack of respect for the 'source material ', by the director, the writers, and actors.

Well... this is a problem. At least for people who like to make money. The old adage is that Sex Sells. It always has. It always will. This goes for men and women as well. So when you de-sexualize everybody, especially in an R rated movie geared toward adults, don't be surprised when nobody comes out to see it.

And whatever you do, don't come out on Twitter after the fact and berate men for not coming to see your super woke flick with everybody wearing potato sacks on what we know are amazing bodies underneath them. Especially when out of the other side of your mouth you're talking about casting one of the "boys" who was making young teenage girls leave stains on their theater chairs during Twilight shows (true story) as the new Batman.

Quote:

Thirdly, is the SJW nonsense. As much as was talked about how 'woke' and feminist this movie is, it certainly isn't wall to wall misandry. Ewen McGreggor should have kept his big mouth shut about how it's a smack down for misogynist. Much like Tim Miller in Terminator Dark Fate said, before the movie. The woke message isn't what anyone wants to hear. It's not why we buy tickets.

This is arguably the most important thing right here. Warner, Disney and all the other ones making these movies and TV shows need to put a muzzle on their "talent" and tell them to keep politics out of their interviews and off of their Twitter feed.

Disney/Marvel is making this mistake right now, and I'm already predicting a huge upcoming box office failure when they put out She Hulk. (I'm sure you've already heard about this, but if not, look it up).

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Thursday nights estimates are in: $990,000

Whoopsie!

Per theater average: $234.

There's basically nothing coming out this weekend that's going to be a threat to anything already in the theaters. "Call of the Wild" would have been it, but it looks like that's underperforming.

That being said, I think that everybody is making a big mistake only removing 671 of the total 4,236 theaters showing BoP for next week. That's only a 16% drop.

It will be enough of a cut to keep BoP from dipping into double digit per theater averages for Week Three, but not sub $200.

This will make BoP's first sub $200 likely on Monday, the 24th (Week Three, Day 18 = 3,565 Theaters).

Episode 9's first sub $200: (January 23, 2020 - Week Five, Day 35 = 3,058 Theaters)

Joker's first sub $200: (November 18, 2019 - Week Seven, Day 46 = 2,337 Theaters)

lol... Just barely cracks a million on it's 4th Friday.

This woke turd will be kicked out of theaters with a 10 week run.

Comically, it's STILL being shown i 3,124 theaters this week, only being slashed by 341 theaters last week. There's almost zero chance it won't dip under $100 per theater by Thursday.

Comparatively speaking:

Episode 9's 4th week Theaters: 4,279
Episode 9's lowest 4th week per theater average: $252

Joker's 4th week Theaters: 3,936
Joker's lowest 4th week per theater average: $414

Wolverine and Cyclops, two of the few remaining white male characters in Marvel or DC comics are now having gay sex on the moon.

Here's me, looking forward to when the movie flops.

Seriously... is anyone even buying this shit anymore?

Gamestop doesn't think so.

Just heard that they've made Wolverine gay. I didn't know it was with Cyclops. Who was obliterated by Jean Grey.

So it wasn't her they both shared a love for, but each other?

Total bullshit.

I'm OK with it. They're destroying themselves.

Comics have cost way too much even back as far as the early 90's when the speculation was rampant before the bottom fell out.

Both Marvel and DC have been infested with woke culture for well over a decade now and they're on the verge of going completely defunct.

I'm glad to see that they've become so bold to start taking full measures instead of the slow drip of wokeness that has invaded the industry over time. We don't need no water, let the mother fucker burn.

These days, Marvel and DC rely on big chains to sell their progressive agenda crap because they've already put most of the small comic book shops out of business.

GameStop just decided that it no longer feels the need to help prop up a dying industry while it's already worrying about how to survive in an industry that is in its death throes themselves. I would fully expect to see other large retailers start dumping them in the near future as well.

There's a large indie comic book scene that is rising from the ashes that is fully controlled by independent creators that don't have to answer to anyone but their crowd funders.

Marvel and DC's time has come and gone. At least in comic book format. Time will tell if they decide to destroy their copyrights like Disney did with Star Wars or if they're going to treat them with respect after they close up their print divisions for good.

It's still struggling at only $189,496,989 as of Wednesday night.

Hey. Ya'all see the new and improved She Hulk at Marvel Comics?

It seems like it's still a work in progress and they haven't settled on a new design going forward yet.

Gross.

And my personal favorite:

"Comic fans are closing their wallets", indeed.

For reference, in case you forgot or you never knew, here's what She Hulk used to look like:

We'll let time tell which one sells better. Quite frankly, I'm tired of being right all the time, and they're not even making it challenging anymore.

We're a LONG way away from getting $200 Million here.

Joker's Week Five Friday: $3,810,641

Episode 9's Week Five Friday: $1,970,398

The truth of the matter is comic book heroes slept wrong with everybody. They are pretty much pansexual‘s, to the degree that they mimicked the Greek gods. So it’s not surprising that they would go back to doing this sort of stuff. On the big screen. Now, are we going to get wonder woman’s original S&M storyline to?

I’m betting Gal Gadot doesn’t want any part of that.

Yeah.... this ain't even fair now.

I got a kick out of how long it was taking BoP to hit $200 Million, but I had no doubt that it eventually would.

Maybe not now though...

Last night's take: $3,679

Last Wednesday Night's take: $235,234

98%. A freakin' 98% drop from the previous week.

BoP would have to average last night's take for the next 234 days and remain in theaters for the next 33 weeks for a grand total of 39 weeks to even hit $200 Million now.

I love winning...

But not like this. :(
