So power production is not an issue. Has nobody actually watched the film before pretending to discuss it? Or did everybody sleep through it?

Noticed that too. He should have passed out, or been damn near immobilized, but nope... used that shoulder and arm like it was no biggie. Glad he 'split ' at the end of the movie. I'd hate have that romance carry over into the sequel.

I've heard several explanations, from it was done to set her apart from the humans, to ' just because it's in the manga ', but if there was a MOVIE explanation, I didn't catch it. Will have to re-watch anyways, so I'll try to pay closer attention. IDK about anyone else, but I find her eyes freaking beautiful, and they don't bother me 1 bit.

Quote:Originally posted by second: Alita: Battle Angel has earned $223.4 million in overseas grosses as of Tuesday, which combined with its $63.4m domestic total gives it a $287m global cume. With $90m in China after a week and a likely over/under $25m second-weekend-gross (it'll face How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Green Book), it may end up with "only" $140m in China by the end. So, yes, it would appear that it was a little frontloaded in what was its do-or-die marketplace. It'll still likely pass $400m worldwide, but otherwise, well, ask me again on Sunday. If it ends up closer to $400m than $500m worldwide, that'll make long-term profitability a challenge and the likelihood of a sequel pretty much between slim and none. That all being said, even a $415 million-plus total was bigger and better than most of us dared hoped when the Robert Rodriguez-directed and James Cameron-produced manga adaptation opened three weeks ago. And it'll be (sans inflation) a bigger global cume than Pacific Rim ($411m), The Mummy ($409m), Edge of Tomorrow ($375m), Mad Max: Fury Road ($370m without China), Independence Day Resurgence ($365m), Legend of Tarzan ($355m), Battleship ($302m), John Carter ($272m), The Lone Ranger ($265m), Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets ($225m), Tomorrowland ($209m) and Jupiter Ascending ($185m). It's not big enough to qualify as a hit but it's not an outright disaster. Quote:Originally posted by second: The chances of a second Alita movie https://comicbook.com/anime/2019/03/01/alita-battle-angel-box-office-sequel-plans/ Alita now finds itself alongside another anime-inspired blockbuster film, which also struggled with the question of whether there was franchise potential: Pacific Rim. That film also scored well at the international box office ($309M) and did well enough domestically ($101M), but due to the film's $190M budget, it was deemed a risk for full franchise rollout. It would take half a decade before Pacific Rim: Uprising arrived in theaters. If there's one last lesson to learn from Pacific Rim, it may be this: once the visual effects designs get done the first time around, it's much easier to implement them in a sequel. A lower budget could be all the swaying Fox needs. See the lower cost for the sequel: Pacific Rim (2013) Production Budget: $190 million Pacific Rim 2 (2018) Production Budget: $150 million www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=pacificrim.htm www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=pacificrim2.htm Alita (2019) Production Budget: $170 million Alita 2 (2022) Imaginary Budget: less than $130 million www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=alita.htm The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

Quote:Originally posted by second: “Alita: Battle Angel” is believed to be the most expensive movie ever shot in Texas. Texas taxpayers will foot some of the bill — likely millions of dollars. Tax incentives reportedly brought that gargantuan budget down to around $170 million. The special-effects-heavy film about a cyborg who awakens more than 500 years in the future reportedly cost more than $200 million to make. It was shot in Dallas and at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin. State officials still are calculating the total grant to be awarded to the production through the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program. Workers in Texas’ film and television production industry are tracking “Alita’s” box office in the hope that it will be big enough to attract other high-dollar productions — and convince lawmakers that the state’s film subsidies, long a target of conservative budget-cutters, are a worthwhile investment. “Hopefully, ‘Alita’s’ success at the box office will be married with success at the Legislature,” said Brian Gannon, director of the Austin Film Commission. Under the program, Texas issues cash grants to companies that spend a certain amount on goods in-state and if 70 percent of the production’s cast and crew is made up of Texas residents. For films and television shows, the state can reimburse costs of up to 20 percent of a production’s budget. At least 60 percent of a production’s shooting days must take place in Texas to qualify for incentives. According to the latest available data from the Texas Film Commission, it covered about 14 percent of the costs of more than $1 billion worth of productions in Texas. As Michael explained in his titular role, Angels are warriors and fighters for the heavens.

I just realized another thing. I had assumed the Law Keepers were named Senturians. But maybe they were Centurians. How ironic.

Quote:Originally posted by SHINYGOODGUY: The flaw that I refer to in my pocket review is not that these two fall in love; it's has to do with the execution within the movie Jewels. Salazar was so damn believable depicting an innocence and vulnerability that older actresses struggle with. The actor playing "Hugo" was not up to the challenge, and so, IMHO, failed to convince me that he "was" in love with Alita. Salazar became Alita, while he was acting like he was in love. She was in love with him. That's how good she was. So when I talk about flaws, no matter how minor, that's what I meant. Ultimately, it did not ruin the movie for me. I was riveted by Salazar's performance. Will it win an Oscar, of course not. But she was so good that I fell in love with her. That's when you know that something good has taken place. I refer to her as "Ripley-like." Her mission was to protect the boy she loved...I got that from her. Very convincingly. I want to see it again, this time in IMAX. Nova gives her a choice: “How does it feel to have the world resting in the palm of your hand?” The choice Alita makes is very cinematic. It should make a good ending for a movie. From the table of contents of the final volume of the Alita comic, you can tell what will happen before Alita makes her choice – one fight after another: Battle Angel Alita Vol. 9 Fight 048 No Brainer Fight 049 Ouroboros II Fight 050 Last Blade Fight 051 Epitaph Another Fight: Conquest of Zalem I Another Fight: Conquest of Zalem II Epilogue www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JN57Z4N/

Quote:What comes after this point is another vision of Battle Angel Alita that was contained in the previous edition printed under the Shueisha Comics label. Currently, the previous chapter (Fight 051 Epitaph) is the canonical end of Battle Angel Alita. The story developments that come after this page were the basis for what was eventually reborn in an altered and expanded form as Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. But due to strong desire from the fans of the series to read the original material, it has been included in this edition. It is not Alita canon; think of it as “Alita Gaiden,” if you wish. You may find the more poetic touches of this material entertaining in a way that the expanded worldview of Last Order is not. Please enjoy.

Quote:Originally posted by second: 20th Century Fox's Alita: Battle Angel earned another $4 million overseas to bring its foreign cume to $312.4m (including $129.5m in China). Combined with a $1.9m domestic weekend (-40%) and an $81.8m domestic cume, the $170m-budgeted Rosa Salazar sci-fi actioner has earned $394m worldwide thus far. It may top $400m next weekend, but it's essentially finished after reaching that admittedly arbitrary milestone. Unless it makes gazillions of dollars in post-theatrical, or Avatar 2 makes so much money that Disney feels like doing James Cameron a solid, this is the end of the line for the Battle Angel.
