SHINYGOODGUY

(Minor Spoiler Included - a basic description of the movie)

I went on Sunday afternoon to see this movie and it seemed to me that they were pushing the 3D version (more money I guess), because most of the prime
movie times were taken up by the 3D version. I went to a 4:00 p.m. screening
and there were about 30 people in the whole theater that held at least 200.

Well, be that as it may, I really liked this movie. It was sort of like a cross between a Disney nature film and 10,000 B.C. (with a dab of Clan of
the Cave Bar without the sex). The story involves the journey of a young
teen aged boy challenged by his tribe and the chief, his father, to become
a man. He, along with other teens, must show that they can make weapons,
track and hunt the wild beasts in their territory. It is raw, although somewhat stylized, but it's effective in getting it's message across.
Namely, each person must find his way in life, whether you're living in
the caveman era or in the modern world.

IMDB describes it like this: Young Keda tries to survive alone in the wilderness after he's left for dead during his first hunt with his
Cro-Magnon tribe. He forms an unlikely alliance with a lone wolf that was abandoned by it's pack

It is grandiose and panoramic in scope, as we follow Keda on his journey to get back to his tribe. There are subtitles, which sometimes is hard to see
because of the snow background. I didn't feel that it detracted from the movie or overall story. But it otherwise has a good pace and never seems to get boring or overly ridiculous as the story unfolds. We wind up
rooting for Keda and Alpha (the name he gives the lone wolf). It shows
the danger of living in that time, but it also shows the beauty of the landscape in a much simpler time. The actors served the story well, although they looked somewhat European and not as gruff as one would think
Cro-Magnon man would look like, but those are minor quibbles and didn't
bother me too much.

I would suggest seeing it on the big screen (it reminded me of Wind River)
so that you could appreciate the large scale beauty and danger of the
landscape. If you want to enjoy the pristine beauty of snow covered plains
and escape the doldrums for 1 hour and 37 minutes, go see this movie in
your local theater. I recommend it.

I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars.
