I am fair certain I've seen all of the prior 4 installments, with the first being the most entertaining.

I have read other reviews which were not very complimentary. While viewing the film, I was unable to dovetail the film I was seeing with those reviews/critiques.

The story moves fast. Pay attention if you want to keep up with the story.
I thought the story was able to incorporate the backstories of the prior plots and add more. If there were plot holes, they went by so fast it was difficult to pinpoint if they were really present of if you just aren't paying attention. If you aren't looking for points to quibble about, I don't believe you'll see them.

Grand conspiracies, covering many of the Wonders of the World, and some Legends as well (King Arthur & The Round Table, Atlantis, Stonehenge)? Check. Epic battles to save Earth? Check. No more Whitwicky schlock? Check, thankfully. Visually saturating entertainment? Check.

So, if you think you'll like it, I expect you will. If you didn't like the first one, you might not like this one. But I think it may be the better entry compared to the prior 3, with the first one being the best.

The hardest parts of the viewing experience, from my POV, was the inconsistency of scale, and the lack of recognizable features between one character and another, one setting or shifting surface to another. From one scene to the next with almost no transition, the lack of landmarks or visual cues made it a bit more distracting to try to conjure the perspective, the scale (close-up, and how far away the background, or a distance shot), and which characters/combatants were in each scene.

One thing to mention. From the TV series to the end of the first film, the assumption is made that Transformers live among us, we just don't see them, because they blend in and look like our world. Some of the other films relay details that might be discounted as "conspiracy theory" rants from those not paying attention to the world around them. But this film does not allow the real world to pretend that these events are not happening, which disproves the possibility that a suspension of disbelief is reasonable anymore.
You can't go back from this, anymore. Without massive mindwipes of the populations.

I don't consider myself any kind of film snob, and I don't crap on Michael Bay movies because that's what they like to do.

I just kind of wish this stuff was coming out when I was a kid. I'm sure i would have loved it. I only saw the first movie, and maybe the second one... I don't even remember. The only scene from them that I can even remember from anything Transformers is Megan Fox working on a car in a white tshirt that showed off her belly button.
