| Brenda: I watched her video and she lost me at saying Columbus discovered America. That got under my skin but then I thought okay I will give her a second chance. What she said in ways sounds like me at times in RL. Canadian Federal politics do go between the Conservatives and the Liberals. Has for all of my life and from what I know of Canadian history that includes my dad as well. So, I can see some of her points, like people being PO'd at the GOP and going Democrat. My problem with the US system is when you don't like either you have no where to go. And also she is annoying as all get out. Or maybe that is me being a grumpy old lady. |

| 6ixStringJack: That seems so important to me as a very novice coder without any web experience that I'm surprised that the site still works as well as it does today. It must be a purely superficial set of tags that don't control file structure, or this place probably would look like the Kill Screen on Pac-Man by now and wouldn't even be usable anymore. |
| 6ixStringJack: I'm not really in these other places, and the entire thread including the post that I just made aren't really in these other places either. I just see that bug pop up enough to notice that for whatever reason the website is telling me everything is in a different place than it actually is. |
| 6ixStringJack: Since I can't pull it up in front of me right now, I can't tell you exactly what to look for, but it's above the first post somewhere on every page where it has the category and sub-categories that are open to the posts made within at the end of the chain. 99.9% of the time it's going to end with the "RWED", but sometimes I find it telling me I'm in Talk Story or General Discussions, or even some really strange things like individual people's blogs that are in the part of the website that I don't think I ever even visited in my history here. |
| 6ixStringJack: Also, you may have actually experienced what I'm talking about (ending up in a different part of the website after making a post) but you just didn't realize it. It's really subtle. The posts I'm talking about are always posted where I posted from, so nobody else would ever notice it, and depending which way you personally leave pages after you post is regular for you, you might never notice it yourself either. |

| 6ixStringJack: Only problem with that is I don't believe you can create a new handle here anymore. And I don't think I have a password for the temporary "Joker" version of my handle that I used for a few weeks after Firefox started throwing me warnings about the website not being secure and not understanding exactly what that meant at the time. I'd probably just be locked out for good if my identity here were bugged out. |
6ixStringJack: NGL... sometimes I wish the bug would hit me and delete my entire post history. I won't go back and change or remove anything on my own as I always said I never would, but I'm sure when I was really bad with the drinking I said a lot of things that would make me die of embarrassment if I read them today. Without any social media presence to speak of outside of my handle here, I was pretty much able to wipe everything away and start with a clean slate when I got sober everywhere else in my life except for this website. I'm never going to go back and read any of it, and I'll never delete it, but I wouldn't mind if a computer bug did the job for me.  |
| 6ixStringJack: Yeah, Ted... if me simply updating my posts a few or more times with edits is a problem I could see pulling up 18 year old threads and swapping their places in the database like that could cause problems too. Not that I get the specifics or anything, but if it's broke enough to fail doing stuff we had no problems doing years ago and deleting people's entire post history, it makes sense to me that having everyone's post from 2 days ago suddenly on page 5 would be a problem. |

| THG: I can't explain it. Haken said there is a sort of switch that triggers, and when it doesn't, he has to do in manually. I'm sure I got that wrong. Anyway, the site is not maintained, and we've been warned by the site's erratic behavior it can't take the load. I don't want to fault JT but as I've said. I can post in one of my threads on Monday and two days later it can be found on page 5. That happens with all current threads. I'm still here and using my threads because my titles are relevant to what I want to post. And it happens in general discussions as well. |
| 6ixStringJack: I'll be honest, I do put quite a few edits on some of my posts, sometimes rather quickly. I wonder if that contributes to it too? Seems silly, since I've done that since day one when we had hundreds or even thousands of people posting. You guys ever notice that you'll be posting in the RWED and all of the sudden you're in a different area like General Discussions or something, even though the post actually is posted in the RWED and it all kind of "resets" when you go back to Home? I wonder if there's some database issue like with the people who've lost their entire post history. Probably some tiny bug somewhere that would be impossible to dig up that a website that isn't almost 25 years old wouldn't have. |
