Has anyone ever watched a full episode of Firefly and not liked the show? Or turned the pilot off after the dinosaurs? A coworker returned my box set to me after watching the beginning of the pilot episode (the BEGINNING, not even halfway through), with the persistent excuse of “I don’t like sci-fi.” Seems she can’t see the forest for the spaceships. Got any advice?

Tell her it's more of comedy, western, drama, action, horror, type sci-fi

Some people just don't get it. If you want to persist, here's what I've done. 1. Show them my Firefly website with infomation about Firefly. http://web.mac.com/arcadianlc 2. Talk about the relationships of the characters. 3. Choose my favorite episode, Our Mrs. Reynolds, (or your favorite), and then I watch it with them. If they still don't get it, Wait a few months, and then try again.

My brother in law watched the movie and didn't really like it a lot. Apparently it wasn't Star Warsy enough. And my sister will probably never watch it because she is, how did you say it? Not into Sci-Fi. So I am right there with you dude.

Well honestly, the movie is a lot more sci-fi than the series. But does that mean she won't watch the series either?

for those not into sci-fi, try Our Mrs. Reynolds, as suggested. Or Shindig

Well, you could apply the cortical electrodes and try to shock her into coherence…….

Seriously, I’ve had this same thing happen with a friend. He is a real action junkie and I was so sure he would like the series… but, not… He would rather be outdoors than in front of a boob tube…. And I can’t blame him for that…. Ya wins a few and ya loses some too….

My ex-girlfriend got to "I love my captain," before she started watching the time code on the VCR, I broke up with her two days after that. My advice is this, if some one doesn't like it, try again, if there's still no hope for them, move on to someone else. Edit: DO NOT do what I did to my girlfriend, She'll give you a few e-mails at first, then you won't hear from her for MONTHS!

I don't think most folks can resist OMR. If they can... as so many others have said --- move on. The next person will likely watch it and fall in love with it.

Which is best for anti-SF people, OMR or Shindig? Or maybe HoG?

I would think that Shindig would be the best just because it is the least Sci-Fi like episode. And you don't really need a background story on the characters because everything is pretty much layed out for you.

Heart of Gold would probably be the last one I would show somebody not because it isn't as "good" as the others, but because a noob doesn't have that feeling of attachment or familarity to the main characters to understand why they are helping who they are helping.

No one has mentioned Jaynestown. By far the best episode to turn people on in my opinion. It's the one I used on a bunch of my Army buddies (though one did need OMR {he, like myself, had a thing for redheads}).

Jaynestown is limited on the cheesy sci-finess and has a good balance of humor and serious overtones.

The whole "don't like sci fi" mentality is the reason IMO for Firefly not being rated as highly as it should be. I can't answer your question though as i have still not been able to "convert" my wife. so if you find an answer let me know.

I always found 'Trash' a good one for conversion. Can't think why...

But 'Shindig' is a really good one.

So far I havent tried to convert anyone without me sitting in the same room with them. I always make sure that I'm there so i can explain certain things so they dont get turned off. My family gets annoyed when they cant hear everything someone is saying so I had to explain that there would be Chinese and dont keep trying to rewind it to get every word.

they ultimately loved it.

wait a minute...my mother was in another state when I made her watch it. i just told her there was hot guys in it and she caved. she's a browncoat now.

so maybe you should trick someone into coming over and then putting the show on. so far i've only had one person resist it completely before they've even seen anything. those kind of people annoy me. well..good luck!

------------------------------------------------- Shepherd used to tell me...can't do something smart, do something right. I'm so into Firefly, my butt glows in the dark.

So far, I haven't run into ANYBODY who doesn't like it....

Oh, wait. My in-laws. They have no imagination. No loss there!

CANTER

I did my conversions with cunning subterfuge.

I made my employees come to my house for 'work' and then made them watch all the episodes of firefly. Ok not *all*, but at least 11 episodes in one sitting. The next week they had to watch the remaining episodes and the movie.

I call it brainwave overload. There is no resistance. They are now completely converted, and can happily repeat quotes and discuss the motivations behind Book's actions. Perfect.

Of course, this would work even better if I could get the dvd's freely available, and not have to import them from halfway around the world. If we could get a local supplier, I might get my guys to actually buy the stuff and convert their own browncoats.

Yeah, if wishes were horses......

Presently I'm asking everyone I know to vote for Firefly. While they're voting, they get caught up in it and it gives me a great excuse to lead them to the show.

I'm thinking we'll rise again!
