Springsteen covers in the style of Firefly?

So, here's a bit of an odd question... Is anyone aware of any Springsteen songs covered by an artist or in a style that sounds similar to the Firefly score/theme song?

To provide some context, I'm looking for a "theme song" for my Firefly role-playing game. One of the players is a big Springsteen fan (as am I) and one of the "sub-themes" involves Springsteen music (we made the call that some music would make it from Earth-That-Was beyond the Beatles, and that Springsteen's vibe would appeal to independents and hackers).

Overall, the crew is pretty similar to the gang from Serenity, generally trying to do the right thing, but often kicked to the curb by fate.

Alternately, Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" would be a solid option.

I dunno... those are pretty narrow parameters. Can't say that I've ever heard anything that would fit your request.

The lyrics to Hungry Heart describing Mal are about the closest thing that pops in my mind. A lot of people probably wouldn't agree that those lyrics could be applied to him, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out he was married at some point in the past if the show ever got the full run it deserved.

It's also got the word "river" in the line:
