I've been a fan of the shiniest sci-fi show ever for a number of years and have watched both the series and Serenity countless times. While playing the RPG space game 'Mass Effect' I noticed a number of similiarities between it and Firefly. Some could have been coincidence: the bad quys are 'reapers'(one letter different than reavers),the main character in the game is called shepard, there is a powerful Alliance, the pilot of the ship is always making jokes, etc. But it was while playing Mass Effect 2 that I really got the feeling the game designers must be Firefly fans! There is a group on the game called the 'Blue Suns' and one of the new characters is 'Miranda'. There are more, was wondering if any other folk noticed these things. Keep Flying!

"Shiny! Let's be bad guys."

Yeah I definitely noticed a bunch of references throughout both games, especially ME2 like you said. There's quite a few to the point where I thought 'Have I turned into one of those people who sees Firefly references everywhere? Even when there are none?'.

That said, I think comparing the overall setting to Firefly is a bit far fetched, the reapers are very different despite their name and lots of stories have evil alliances. Though I admit at times I did think that aside from the aliens it could be like a Firefly story set on/around the core worlds or something.

Tali is very likely a shout out or expy of Kaylee, only as a humanoid alien in fully enclosed personal protective equipment.

I think there are definitely Firefly fans working for Bioware. It could also be coincident but id like to think that the writers hide things in all games. ID say there are Firefly fans working for every game company like wow has lots of Firefly items you can buy. Same with the game Rift you can purchase Mudders Milk in it along with other Firefly things. Its shiny how Firefly things are hiden in tv shows, movies, and games.
