What's with the calls for Buffy cameos?

Anyway, I see a lot of folks asking about Buffy actors making cameos in Serenity, or "what if so-and-so from Buffy attacked the crew or some such." I don't get it. The two shows are so different, why would anyone even think of a crossover? I'm not a fan of BTVS, never seen it, but if I was a fan of both shows I'd want them to be separate, else it sunders the believability. I mean, what would some vampire demon be doing on Serenity?

Seems weird to me.

Think most people are referring to the actors rather than the characters for the movie, though there are those sick people that gene-splice various universes together for fan-fic

Given that Joss has built up a number of actors that he knows can deliver his lines (which is a lot about timing and finding the funny, but also being able to turn on a pin to the other side of the coin) - he has an easy place to find actors he knows he can work with. That said, there is a risk that casting say "Buffy" or "Angel" or even "Willow" or "Giles" in Serenity would overshadow the FF universe - though at the same time it would be great publicity. I suspect that had the series continued, we would have seen a fair few of the "main" characters play some role in FF as guest stars.

Yeah think it the actors. There was talk of DB doing cameo, and I personally dont want him in it, would ruin it. Keep it all seperate and it doesnt need him to stand up.

While I agree with the sentiments above, the one actor I find particularly funny from the buffyverse is Alexis Denisof. I'd love to see him in a guest role. Great actor plain and simple!

Whilst I am not exactly broken-hearted that (apparently) no Buffyverse actors will be appearing in the BDM even in cameos, I don't necessarily think it would have destroyed believability if they had. If it was more than one of them, then yes, it would be a distraction, but just one Buffyverse actor in just one scene? It couldn't do that much damage.

I will agree, though, that if the series had continued we definitely would have seen some Buffyverse starts in guest roles - maybe even becoming semi-regular characters. It didn't hurt Buffy when Mal suddenly turned up as an evil preacher in season seven. Maybe Charisma Carpenter could have been a Companion friend of Inara's.

Mmmm... Charisma as a Companion...

This is the firefly crew's movie, there would be absolutely no reason to throw other actors in there, it would be awful.

I love Alexis Denisof! He is the best!

But I agree with everyone else: actors, not characters, from Buffy or Angel would be welcomed, in my opinion, on the Firefly movie, even if in really small parts. I mean, Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, and Jonathan Woodward (that guy on the message) have all been on Buffy or Angel, so it would be cool to see a Buffy or Angel cast member as a character, maybe a bad guy!

I agree that Alexis Denisof would be awesome on Firefly. I bet if the show hadnt been cancelled...Joss probably would have added crew members or exchanged old ones for new ones (though the crew is perfect how it is). So it would be neat to think about different people joining Serenity. I'd think Alexis would make a great new crew member. I'd prefer to see a few other Buffyverse actors/actresses make cameos. I think Nicholas Brendon would fit right in. Perhaps J. August Richards...or even Amy Acker! Though there are endless ways on how it could end up bad....but there are alse endless ways on how it could end up good!

I'm torn on this one. One the one hand feeling that Firefly can stand alone and doesn't need any help from the others. On the other hand, feeling that "oooh, wouldn't it be cool to see Alexis or Allyson, etc.!"

I think what we are forgetting, however, is that while Firefly and general Joss fans are indeed mighty and many, this movie will be seen by thousands (nay, millions!) of people who haven't a clue. They're just going to see this cool new movie and have never heard of Firefly or Buffy or, if you can believe it, Joss Whedon. And, it might also help bring in Buffy or Angel fans who never got into Firefly.

There are only two important things going on here (1) to see our movie will be wonderfull, no matter what and (2) the more people who see it, the better chance for two more!!! They could have Bush and Kerry on it for all I care, if it means that more people will come and more movies will be made!

This is all in my humble little opinion, of course :)

And, forgive me, can't help it, would kill to see James Marstairs in anything!

I don't think it would bother me any, so long as it was played straight. The Danny Glover thing in "Maverick" was just a jerky thing to do. I tend to think if it was Gellar, Hannigan or Boreanaz, it'd be a problem with the non 'heads, bothering some people greatly and have it take them out of the movie, if someone who was a bigger star than Nathan Fillion was in the movie in a cameo.

It'd be cool if they were unrecognizable, so only geeks who sit through the credits would know.

I'll nominate .... hmm ... Tom Lenk as one of Badger's henchman. Or Nicholas Brendan gets killed by Jayne, quickly, so you barely get a chance to see it's him. It'd be kind of a funny in-joke.

I've never seen a frame of "Angel" so I don't know about those people.

gotta agree with my mom: we must do everything and anything we can to get more fans onto Firefly. it would be really cool to see a Buffy/Angel actor as a bad guy, cuz, if you think about it, with the exception of Summer, all Firefly cast members have been evil bad guys in Buffy or Angel.

but you spelled James's name wrong: its James Marsters.
