Having just watched Joss Whedon's commentary on objects in space, I popped along to amazon(.co.uk) to look up John Paul Satre's nausea that Joss mentioned. Rather fantastically, I thought, top of the "customers who bought this item also bought" list is The Myth of Syphius, the other book he mentioned in the commentary.
I'm just waiting for the commentary where Joss mentioned how he once threw himself off a cliff and see how many of us follow him then .

Those two books are considered fundamental fare for existentialism, so it's not altogether shocking that came up. Out of curiousity, did you buy either one?

Er, no I didn't. I was quite tempted to buy Nausea, I do like a little bit of philosophical light reading every now and again (I've read a lot of Paul Davies), but I don't have the cash at the moment.

I've been thinking about picking these up too...
I studied philosophy at college, but I hadn't been impressed by existentialism, but I am lemming enough to want to understand Whedon's POV.

I'm hoping to meet him at a comic book convention in Chicago in August, maybe I'll ask about the 'throwing himself off a cliff' thing...
