...Well, it's a small mention, and it's really more about Wonderfalls and the Swan than Firefly, but here it is:

Quote:

"Your article on The Swan (Proud as a Peacock About The Swan - April 12) fails to mention something I find very frustrating about such shows - they are replacing programs that present women in strong, well-adjusted roles.
In particular, The Swan replaced Wonderfalls, about a deep, interesting (albeit quirky) young woman who put forward a positive message to young girls. Fox also cancelled Firefly last year, which provided multiple, complex role models for the female audience.
Complex, fully thought-out female characters are pushed to the side for shows about women who are convinced that a nose job will solve their problem.
I realize that reality-TV shows are super cheap, but I just can't imagine that Wonderfalls was so expensive to produce, and it was so much richer in texture, so much more suited to a long-term, dependable audience."

- JOHN EDWARDS, Annapolis, Md.
(appeared in The Globe and Mail, Thursday, April 15, 2004, pg A18)

I have a suspicion that the author of this letter might be an occasional visitor to this forum. Good for him for sticking up for Firefly and Wonderfalls.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Excellent article indeed. A shame there are not more such articles.
