I notice that fanfic often has "maya" as part of the description. Can someone explain that to me?

A fanfic authoress who goes by Jane0904 is the creator of an OC named Freya. Don't be dissuaded by the Mary Sue-ish name; she is breathing and delightful. So, Maya is a portmanteau of Mal and Freya, like Silee or Rayne.
