'supply chain' high jinks, and oh yeah, computers don't actually run Amazon

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I've been ordering stuff online lately, simply because I can't find things in stores.

For EIGHT of the last 10 things I've ordered, the orders were cancelled by the vendor 1.5-3 weeks later. I suspect it's because things were out of stock - not that they were LISTED online as out of stock, but they were.

And once the orders were cancelled, it took another 3-7 days for the charges to be reversed off my credit card.

What gives?

Aside from the price gouging corporations are actively engaged in ('inflation'), this I believe is another scam to take advantage of COVID-19 to get free money. Well, it's not free money, it's MY money, that I worked for. But there's certainly nothing illegal about them holding my money for up to 30 days to pad their books and make interest off of it, before they have to either return it to me or send me my stuff. And the 3-7 days it takes for the credit card companies to 'release' my money back to me is more gravy for their businesses too.

Everybody's in on the 'supply chain' scam where they sell out-of-stock items, except of course the consumer, who's getting ripped off left and right by both the vendors and the credit card companies.

Oh, as for the Amazon 'computers' - they're actually hordes of Pilipinas working from home with roosters crowing in the background, making non-stop 'adjustments' to compensate for all the faulty computer transactions.

Big West Coast traffic jam, truck and ships gridlocked then Biden phoned Commiefornia and made the ships move out 5 miles off coast...all issues... out of sight...problem sloved nobody can see the backlog jamming up the supplies anymore. Bezos stepped away, while Warehouses get hit by storms.

You seem to suffer the delusion that businesses don't have their own brand of evil.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

A Philipina was selling me home improvement ("We just happen to be in the neighborhood") with a rooster crowing in the background.

Hmmmm ... that rooster crowing ...

I heard one while dealing with a cell phone company ... and what sounded like an identical rooster while dealing with a Walmart help line about a (yet another) cancelled order 3 weeks after the fact ...

Maybe that rooster too is a scam, so we're supposed to think that these are people working at home, and not in some huge, crowded call center where they're packed like sardines.

I've never once been charged by Amazon for a product until it was confirmed as shipped, and after that point it's never been later than the date that they put as "expected" when I bought it. On the contrary, especially during this shipping fiasco, I've only ever had products ship to me faster than the expected date if not on it.

That being said, don't bother talking to anyone at Amazon on the phone about shipping issues. Use the text chat. (I always save it too, but it's never been an issue).

Recently I had ordered two wifi usb dongles that I was told would be delayed several days after I purchased them with no actual shipping date provided. (I still wasn't charged, because they weren't shipped). This was a bit of a problem, because I was supposed to have one for my aunt's computer when I saw her that weekend.

It was EXTREMELY easy for me to get them to give me a bonus credit to my account. When she asked "would a $5 credit on your account show our sincere apology", I simply replied "Yes, I feel that a $10 credit on my account would show your sincere apology", to which she said OK and I ended up with a free $10 credit. The following day, the issue still hadn't been resolved like she said it would be and I chatted with another person and almost immediately got them to give me a second $10 credit. At that point, I was only paying sales tax for the two items.

I thought maybe this would just go on forever and I could make $10 a day for the rest of my life, but it was resolved on the next day and promptly shipped.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not shilling for Amazon, because fuck Amazon. Just letting you know personally that there are ways to handle them and benefit from it.
