Why The Main Argument Against Withdrawing US Troops Is Bogus
https://caitlinjohnstone.com/2021/04/24/why-the-main-argument-against-
withdrawing-us-troops-is-bogus
/

Former National Security Advisor and literal psychopath John Bolton has a new opinion piece out in Foreign Policy titled “‘Bring the Troops Home’ Is a Dream, Not a Strategy“, which should surprise no one and enrage everyone at the same time. The fact that this reptile continues to be elevated on mainstream platforms after consistently revealing himself to be a bloodthirsty liar is all the evidence you need that we are trapped inside a globe-spanning empire fueled by human corpses.

John Bolton has pushed for deranged acts of mass military slaughter at every opportunity. He not only remains one of the only people in the world to continually insist that the Iraq invasion was a great idea, but has actually argued that the destabilization and chaos caused by the invasion cannot be attributed to Bush’s war because you can’t prove that “everything that followed from the fall of Saddam Hussein followed inevitably, solely, and unalterably from the decision to overthrow him.” There are harrowing accounts of Bolton threatening, assaulting and intimidating anyone with less power than him if they got in his way; he once threatened to harm the children of former OPCW Director General Jose Bustani because Bustani was interfering in attempts to manufacture consent for the Iraq war.

Biden is an actual patriot who, unlike the orange idiot, sees Putin for the monster he is, not a hero to emulate.

The tentative transit, first reported by CNN, was not unusual or designed to send any particular new signal, as the U.S. Navy typically conducts eight or nine such movements per year, the person said.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

That's a pretty lame excuse the US is putting out after going through all the bother of asking Turkey if it could cross the Straits of Bosporus, and sending its ships steaming at full speed in that direction. And then having them turn tail.

OOPS! Just kidding! We didn't REALLY mean to go to the Black Sea! heh heh

How many of those transits claimed by the administration that happen "all the time" are cancelled AFTER they've begun? You'd think a reporter who wasn't just reprinting government propaganda might ask that simple question.

ROOMBA is an idiot. It's that simple.

'Impressive what a stable leader can accomplish': Trump 2016 delegate heaps praise on Biden

As for Republicans, Robert Yates, who attended the 2016 GOP convention as a delegate and voted for Trump said he couldn't be more pleased with Biden.

"It's nice to have some competence in government back, and it's impressive what a stable leader can accomplish when he appoints competent, experienced people to execute a goal," explained Yates, a two-time GOP candidate Erie County Council who now calls himself a Democrat.

A breakthrough on immigration?

You are likely to hear it from President Biden this week when he speaks to a joint session of Congress.

Biden will tell Congress that immigration reform is free money for the American economy.

How?

Citizenship for millions of immigrants already working here opens the door to new tax dollars and increased consumer spending.

Now that's a new look at immigration.

Suddenly, alarmist talk about scary immigrant caravans seems old.

Biden deletes Trump's climate negligence with a single event

While there is no question that America, and the world, lost valuable time for climate action during the negligent Trump years, many climate experts were also concerned that the damage to America's diplomatic reputation would deflate future climate negotiations and hamstring U.S. efforts to lead by example and encourage commitments from other nations. By all indications from President Biden's Leaders Summit on Climate last week, they need not have worried.

By all appearances, the concerted effort was very well received by allies abroad and developing countries eager for meaningful climate action.

Overall, the event was an early success on the international stage for the Biden administration, and set the stage for active negotiations in the lead up to Glasgow. This is no great surprise, despite reputational concerns after the disastrous Trump years there was never any question that the invited heads of state would celebrate and welcome renewed energy and climate commitments from the world's largest economy. Importantly, this also served as a wake-up call to Xi and Putin that the world once again expects action.

The IRS would be auditing no millionaires soon if Biden had not changed the directions to the IRS. This was a very explicit policy of the Republican Party in order to reward their rich donors. President Obama tried to fight back, but he didn't try very hard and congressional Republicans were able to continue gutting the IRS every year. Needless to say, once Trump was in office there was no longer any pushback at all.

Wrong. And wrong in a way that shows you don't understand the graph from 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. And you don't understand Congress controls the IRS auditing, not the President, because Congress decides, not the President, how much money is spent on auditing. And you don't understand that audit numbers in 2019, 2020 were a secret because Trump did not want you to know his tax returns and others with incomes over a million were not being audited.

If the IRS keeps operating as it has under Trump, economist Larry Summers estimated that between 2020 and 2029 the IRS will fail to collect nearly $7.5 trillion of taxes it is due, with the majority going to the wealthy. If you are a normal person who makes a wage, your tax compliance is 99 percent. If you are a rich person who earns dividend income and real estate income and runs a proprietorship, your compliance rate could be as low as 45 percent. www.vox.com/22405898/joe-biden-irs-funding

Biden* is the third least popular President since World War II in his first 100 days.

Super funny, since after 4 years of the Legacy Media literally picking through our former President's shit every morning to see what fast food he ate for breakfast, they haven't stopped blowing Biden* since day one.

Worst President in my life so far, and he wasn't actually even legitimately elected.

If you watched the "News" all day long and that was your only stimulus as an inert sponge Democrat voter, you'd believe he was the most popular president that ever Presidented.

lol

He's a fucking joke. Not only as a President, but as a man.

Do try to enjoy the next three years, because that's all he's going to get.

You Democrats on this board seem to hate life just as much as you did back in October of last year.

There are advantages for a rich Democratic voter when Republicans are in charge: My Federal taxes decrease and the chances of my tax returns being audited declines to zero. When the incompetent Texas Republican administrators crash the electric power grid, my income from natural gas sales on the spot market soars. I made more in a week while the power was down than in a normal whole year. I love the GOP Incompetency.

Here's what's in Biden's $1.8T American Families Plan

President Biden on Wednesday will outline the American Families Plan, an ambitious package that would call for $1 trillion in new spending and $800 billion in new tax cuts and aim to significantly expand access to preschool and community college, as well as child care and health care benefits.

The American Families Plan calls for a $200 billion program offering universal pre-kindergarten for all three- and four-year-olds; $109 billion for tuition-free community college for any American who wants it; $85 billion to increase Pell Grants to benefit low-income and minority students; and over $4 billion in funding for larger scholarships, certification and support programs for teachers.

The plan would build upon provisions of the American Rescue Plan by extending the Affordable Care Act premiums tax credits indefinitely and make the earned income tax credit expansion for childless workers permanent. It would permanently make the child tax credit fully available to the lowest-income families, while extending other aspects of the expansion of the credit, such as the increase in the credit amount, through 2025.

The proposal also calls for the creation of a national paid family and medical leave program. The $225 billion investment would provide workers up to $4,000 a month if they require leave to care for a new child, a seriously ill loved one, deal with an illness or another serious reason.

Other measures Biden will call on Congress to pass include a $45 billion investment in meal programs for children and low-income families; unemployment insurance reform; $225 billion for investments in childcare that would include a $15 minimum wage for early childhood staff and expanded child care center accessibility.

Officials said the plan would be paid for through tax reforms targeted at wealthy Americans, such as an increased capital gains tax rate, a higher top income tax rate, and increased IRS auditing enforcement on high-income individuals and businesses.

"We view the American Families Plan as a core element of President Biden's strategy to build back better and generate a strong and inclusive economy for the future," a senior administration official said.

The plan, which faces an uncertain future in Congress, does not go as far as some Democrats hoped. Some have pressed for a permanent expansion of the child tax credit, and it's not clear that lawmakers will be satisfied by the proposal to make part of the expansion permanent while extending other parts through 2025. Key Democrats signaled on Tuesday that the House bill would include such a provision despite Biden not proposing it in his initial proposal.

Biden has also faced pressure from members of his party, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), to include health-related provisions expanding health coverage and lowering drug prices. The ideas had initially been expected to be part of the plan, but Biden did not include them in the final version.

Asked why such provisions were not included, a senior administration official said that the permanent Obamacare premium tax credit represents a "critical investment" and insisted that Biden remains "fully committed to negotiations to reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

The White House views the proposal as a companion to Biden's $2.3 trillion infrastructure and climate plan he announced last month and officials said that the investments would be made over a 10-year period.

The two plans combined total over $4 trillion in government spending, on top of the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill that Biden signed into law about 50 days into his term. The administration's two most recent proposals include tax increases that would pay for both plans in full over a 15-year period.

Biden's proposed jobs plan would be paid for through an increase in the corporate tax rate, while Wednesday's proposal would roll back the 2017 Trump tax cuts by increasing the top individual tax rate from 37 percent to 39.6 percent for taxpayers in the top 1 percent of income. Biden is also proposing an increase in the capital gains tax rate for households making over $1 million to 39.6 percent, which officials have said would only impact 0.3 percent of taxpayers.

Senior administration officials made clear the proposal is meant at a starting point and that Biden is open to hearing suggestions on what should be included and how to pay for the package. But Republicans are likely to oppose Biden's family plan and the tax hikes proposed to pay for it, and some moderate Democrats could also oppose the plan because of its large price tag and tax provisions.

"What you'll hear the president explain tomorrow night is if people have other ideas about how to finance these critical investments, he is open to hearing them," said one official. "But he believes that these issues of tax fairness, of making sure people pay the taxes they already owe, are fundamental and necessary."

Biden and other top administration officials are set to embark on a publicity blitz after Wednesday's speech to educate the public about both the infrastructure proposal and the families plan and win over support for both measures.

The White House will face a complicated road to getting both proposals passed, even as officials have said publicly they hope to see some kind of progress on an infrastructure bill by Memorial Day and passage by summer. The White House has not ruled out using budget reconciliation to pass Biden's proposals without GOP support, which Democrats resorted to in order to pass his coronavirus relief bill.

Some White House allies, such as Sen. Chris Coons (D-Dele.), have suggested working with Republicans to pass a bipartisan bill that addresses traditional infrastructure like roads, bridges, railways and broadband, while using the budget reconciliation process to pass other priorities in a way that would not require GOP support.

Biden will maintain an "openness to others' ideas," a senior official told reporters, but is committed that "these are investments we can't afford not to make as a country."

Go Joe...

$1.8 TRILLION =
$1,800 billion
- $200 for kgarten
- $109 paid tutition for community college
- $225 paid family leave
- $045 paid lunches for poor children
- $225 improvements in early childcare
______
$996 unaccounted-for expenditures

I wonder why nobody does a back-of-envelope calculation on these various proposals. I'd like to read the whole thing. If it's like his other expenditures, less than half goes to what Biden* says it does, and remainder goes to a grab-bag of DNC-fostered pork barrel projects that should have wider informed discussion before being passed into the budget.

But I'm glad our allies that have leached off of us since the 50's are pleased.

With that simple sentence, Biden officially closed the book on the dominant economic theory of the last 40 years: That success by affluent people at the top of the economy would trickle down to the average American. It's been the theory behind every major tax cut pushed by Republican presidents since Ronald Reagan -- including Donald Trump's 2017 cut -- and is so closely associated with our 40th president that the economic idea is known colloquially as "Reaganomics."
