Ok, from the thread title, obviously this topic is gonna be something some folk might rather not know.

And honestly, I been debating whether or not to even post it here, not just because of it's ugliness, but also because of the political implications of some of the fallout from this matter.

Again - you've been warned.

Now, about the fallout - I pointed out that one of my issues with RAWA, who I do firmly support, is their lack of militancy...

Well, there's some women over there that feel the same way, and some of em have taken to planting or wearing bombs, and initially set that up to implicate various other factions into blowing the hell out of each other over it by making it LOOK like someone elses doing.

Thing is, it's not JUST the Kharazi thugs, Northern Alliance Warlords and Talitubbies - you got a whole shitload (or is that shiite-load?) of factions all vying for their cut, and exploiting those fracture lines is what them girls started doing till the boys twigged that there was another player in the game.

With me so far ?

Now, abuse of the boys over there is a pretty damned common thing, since if you want a woman you prettymuch have to scrape up the dosh to buy one and marry her, and so on and so forth - and this mess is an extension of that twistedness, and it ain't like it's limited to just Afghanistan either, hell, you ask me it's just like Capitol Hill, only more public, and many of them folk on the hill are even worse for a FACT, I mean, I could tell stories... but I won't.

Anyhows, the chicks who decided to *get* militant have started recruiting from this pool of abused, dispossed boys, not out of maternal instinct, but rather that it provides them a ready made source of suicide shock troops willing to die for the cause, and SOMEONE, it ain't us mind you cause we don't dare, is providing them with resources and hardware - I really don't wanna know who, but anyone who can pull a trio of Hughes MD-500's out of their arse is someone with more financial and political pull that we'll ever have.

Warning US forces about this is fairly pointless, as they're already trigger happy enough to blow away women, kids and civvies without so much as a blink, and so far they've been real careful to stay far the hell away from american forces and not engage them - the axe they are grinding is mostly with the other internal factions.

Still, it's one thing to be militant, it's another to be psychotic about it, and I don't see a rabidly bloodthirsty matriarchy as much of an improvement over the Taliban, so I don't support em...

But I'd be a liar if I didn't admit to taking a grim satisfaction in the body count they're racking up amongst the bastards responsible for this travesty.

My concern is both that they might up their game and wind up getting into it with US forces, who will instead of realizing what they're dealing with, will simply smear a whole slew of aid and charitable organisations (like they usually do) and start lashing out blindly in retaliation...

And that they might actually start taking and holding territory, cause they've already shown themselves to be as rabid, as bloodthirsty, as any Talitubby or Qeada is - and while I'll admit they've got cause to feel that way, acting in such a fashion isn't gonna do a damn thing to solve the problem, burying it in bodies never does, it just makes more work for the undertaker, and more people that hate you.

All that said, every one of these abused kids who has a rifle or a bomb slapped into his hand by an angry woman, who is, IMHO, every bit as much an abuser, as guilty of it, as the men who abused them, is a time bomb armed by that mistreatment in the first place, and triggered via the horror of enabling it instead of healing it.

It's insanity on every side, is what it is, and a lesson learned in respect to RAWAs lack of militancy, not that I am sure it will save em from the madness, but enabling and arming it, that's *NOT* the answer, and unfortunately, some people think it is.

And it all comes back to the same root, doesn't it - how you treat your children.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Ah, yes, bachabazi, as we called it. “Bacha” means “boy”; “bazi” means “play”. So literally “boy play”.

It got started (eons ago) because of the fact that Afghanistan was virtually all nomadic for so much of its history. The Kuchis travel in two groups; the women and children took the camels overland and met up with the men occasionally; the men took the sheep along the river lines. So often they were without women. So in camp they'd have bachabazi boys who would dress up like women and dance for them.

But it was only dressing and dancing for them. They met up with the womenfolk often enough to get their "urges" satisfied, it was just for entertainment between times. No doubt some abuse took place, but from what I knew of the Kuchis, they wouldn't look too kindly on that. The boys weren't slaves, they were just a few among the young men in the tribe.

It also has a lot to do with the fact that women are kept so separate in settled areas (which they AREN'T among the Kuchis, who pride themselves in not wearing chadri). Women eat alone after serving the men; women can't be seen sans chadri by males except close relatives; you pointed out the thing that usually it's "old" men who get wives, because they can't afford them when younger. Put it together; young men with urges who are segregated completely from women except close relatives....testosterone will out. Just like the clergy... Fuck 'em.

Many have written about how the strict segregation of Afghan men and women (who are also treated as property in traditional Afghan society) before marriage prevents the course of natural physical and emotional relationships between the sexes, and as one Afghan historian told me, "Straight guys find that their sexuality is flexible in these sorts of situations … soon [sex between men is] widely accepted with a wink and a nudge."
Yup, there it is in the article. I figured it'd be in there somewhere. But that's not the whole explanation, nor is it the origin.

Don't kid yourself that the Taliban is innocent, or pursues punishment much more than the non-Taliban world, or that this phenomenon is limited to Afghanistan, either.
Quote:

Just recently, the Taliban issued a new set of 30 rules to its fighters. But there is a curious rule that the Western media has typically ignored. Rule No. 19 instructs that Taliban fighters must not take young boys without facial hair into their private quarters. Rule No. 19 obviously indicates that the sexual abuse of young boys is a prevalent and institutionalized phenomenon among the Taliban and that, for one reason or another, its widespread practice has become a problem.

That a mass pathology such as this occurs in a culture which demonizes the female and her sexuality -- and puts her out of mind and sight -- is only to be expected. To be sure, it is a simple given that the religious male fanatic who flies into a violent rage even at the thought of an exposed woman’s ankle will also be, in some other dysfunctional and dark secret compartment of his fractured life, the person who leads some poor helpless young boy into his private chambers.

The key issue here is that the demented sickness that underlies Rule No. 19 is by no means exclusive to the Taliban; it is a widespread phenomenon throughout Islamic-Arab culture and it lies, among other factors, at the root of that culture’s addiction to rage and its lust for violence, terror and suicide. There is a basic and common sense empirical human reality: wherever humans construct and perpetuate an environment in which females and their sexuality are demonized and are pushed into invisibility, homosexual behaviour among men and the sexual abuse of young boys by older men always increases. Islamic-Arab culture serves as a perfect example of this paradigm, seeing that gender apartheid, fear of female sexuality and a vicious misogyny are the structures on which the whole society functions.

Homosexuality is “extremely common” in many parts of the Arab world. Indeed, even though homosexuality is officially despised in this culture and strictly prohibited and punishable by imprisonment, incarceration and/or death, having sex with boys or effeminate men is actually a social norm. Males serve as available substitutes for unavailable women. The key is this: the male who does the penetrating is not considered to be homosexual or emasculated any more than if he were to have sex with his wife, while the male who is penetrated is emasculated. The boy, however, is not considered to be emasculated since he is not yet considered to be a man. A man who has sex with boys is simply doing what many men (especially unmarried ones) do. And this reality is connected to the fact that, as scholar Bruce Dunne has demonstrated, sex in Islamic-Arab societies is not about mutuality between partners, but about the adult male's achievement of pleasure through violent domination.

This lust for violence against “the enemy” and the accompanying yearning to die in the process are fuelled by the morbid earthly existence that is engendered by militant Islam. Indeed, there exists very few reasons for males to value their time on earth; their freedom of action and ability to experience joy and pleasure are extremely limited in terms of what is allowed. To be sure, most young men have absolutely no experience in love, sex, affection or friendship with females, and they have no outlet for their libido, which, to further pathologize the mindset, they regard as evil temptation. Killing and dying, therefore, become the only areas where free will can be exercised.

This lust for death is further compounded by the theological underpinnings of Islam itself, which promises the Muslim male sexual treats in the afterlife which are forbidden to him on earth. Indeed, if a Muslim male dies in the cause of jihad, he will enjoy a blissful union with virgins in paradise. And for those Muslim warriors for whom women are not of interest, there will be young pre-pubescent boys at their service -- and they will be like “scattered pearls” of “perpetual freshness”

There is your primary example of Western culture being unable to comprehend aspects of another culture. It’s complicated; and the less we know of the outside world, the more we consider it “less than” when it goes against what is considered right and proper in our own.

Dunno what to say about the women getting militaristic. There are so many pros and cons, sa you elucidated. Tough call, but obviously appealing to the outside world for help isn't much use; the outside world doesn't GET IT, and thinks of other countries as reflective of their own.
