Very interesting. Most mammoths are I think found in Siberia. With temperatures rising in the high north, the scientists may see more remains of extinct species coming to light.

I hope these scientists can find all of this one's remains.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

At first I thought it was referring to some very large unspecified carcass. A mammoth carcass of what, I asked myself. OH! They meant ** a ** mammoth - as in a woolly mammoth.

NOW I get it!

Just as a bit of info, another extinct elephant-like species the mastodon lived in N and Central America.

There has never been any evidence of mmmoths being woolly, quite the opposite, hence I did not include that in the name. They were assumed to be woolly due to the assumed frigid temperatures where they are now found, in Siberia. Even though they are found with fresh-flash-frozen summer flowers in their stomachs, which only grown in places closer to the equator.

Oh sorry, no criticism meant! I did think it was a cool (so to speak) thing! The title did confuse me just a tad, but no big deal.

But since you mentioned it, I did look it up - apparently very few frozen woolly mammoth remains have been found. But one almost completely intact, possibly 2 year old, was found with hair or fur, however you want to call it.

Other not so intact carcasses also had fur.
