Quote:The New York State attorney general’s office filed a scathingly worded lawsuit on Thursday taking aim at the Donald J. Trump Foundation, accusing the charity and the Trump family of sweeping violations of campaign finance laws, self-dealing and illegal coordination with the presidential campaign.

Meh... although I'm willing to concede that he is quite corrupt, and his family may possibly be as well, pending a legitimate trial proving these allegations, I still think it would be a tie between the Trumps and the Clintons. Why are you guys slaves to your partisan hyperbole? Do Right, Be Right. :)

Aren't you the poster who thinks she was selling or having sex with under age kids in a pizza shop?

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Geezus - that's just as f*cking stupid. 'Cuz running it through a pizza shop makes so much more sense. Did you get a child with a large pepperoni? How'd that work?

Quote:She also recently accused Mr. Trump of “undermining the rule of law” with his pardon practices. She made the comment when she announced she was continuing an effort begun under Mr. Schneiderman to change New York’s double-jeopardy law so that state and local prosecutors would have the power to bring criminal charges against aides to Mr. Trump who have been pardoned. The Trump Foundation has been in legal limbo since after the election, when the president wanted to dissolve it amid growing controversy about its practices. But in late 2016, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, Amy Spitalnick, said the foundation “cannot legally dissolve” while it is under investigation.
Quote:Originally posted by 1kiki: Trump Sued by New York AG I looked up the difference between a lawsuit and filing charges. The biggest differences I could find are: lawsuits aren't criminal cases, they're a legal process to recover 'damages' lawsuits don't involve a breach of law lawsuits don't result in jail time the burden of proof is different - in a lawsuit it's the 'preponderance of evidence', in a criminal case it's 'beyond a reasonable doubt' I think we're all familiar with a defendant winning a criminal case but losing a civil one. For example, OJ Simpson was found criminally 'not guilty', but was required to pay the Goldman family for wrongful death. What strikes me as unusual is a state acting as an individual and filing a civil case - a lawsuit - to recover 'damages'. It makes me think either their was no criminal misconduct, or the state lacks enough evidence to pass the 'reasonable doubt' hurdle. Unless the state can actually recover significant damages, this looks like grandstanding.
