I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Women who survived acid attacks appear in a fashion shoot to encourage others to come out of the shadows.

New Delhi (CNN) -- It was a photo shoot that caught India's attention.

Quote:

Five courageous survivors of acid attacks posed for portraits.

In a country where victims of such attacks do not dare to come out of hiding, or show their disfigured faces in public, this was a "ground breaking" photo shoot, participants said.

"After the acid attack I never took photos," Rupa, one of the models and a survivor said.

"When the photos got circulated in the media, people started calling to inquire about me, I felt so good. After the photo shoot I want to go out meet more people."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

SAGAN: We are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide, increasing the greenhouse effect. It may not take much to destabilize the Earth's climate, to convert this heaven, our only home in the cosmos, into a kind of hell.

KIKI, there are a lot of misogynists in the world, several of them on this very board. That's why I feel these women are so very brave. Rather than excoriate evil, in this thread I choose to celebrate the brave, the big-hearted, the good.

My kitty was playing with my keyboard and making it difficult to type, so I didn't have a chance to explain my meaning.

Yes, this is what women face, and not just in 'backwards' India, but right here in the good old USeffingA, as my search indicates. And not just soto voce in hateful private conversation, but out on the internet. It seems modern technology and scientific understanding aren't enough to erase ignorance and hate.

So I wanted to point out that these women exposed themselves to public light, not because they escaped misogyny, but in spite of it.

HOORAY for them!
