Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I saw this headline, can't bear to read the story. This kind of bullshit is sickening, but not that unusual. When I was involved with Wildcare (our local wildlife rehab), one of the guys who worked for Animal Control (who call themselves the Humane Society) would bring us injured and orphaned skunks they got called to retrieve. We logged them in as "striped weasels", because if Animal Control kept 'em, they killed 'em out of hand--on the chance of rabies. "It's the law".

That guy would have lost his job if anyone found out. He went on, however, to HEAD Wildcare and is now Director of International Bird Rescue, which is a huge organization and does amazing work worldwide. Sometimes good people DO come out ahead. Not often enough, tho'.

My feelings mirror yours.

When you fight monsters, aim for their wallet, for they have no hearts.

I'd reccommend parlaying that into an "if they have nothing better to do" discussion of their budget, while sharpening a big, nasty axe for it.

This has worked *wonders* on the behavior and quality of the local law enforcement around here.
