While no fan of the badge bearing horde, and in respect to this horrible tale coming out of Cleveland...

North Ridgeville clears humane officer of wrongdoing for killing feral kittens, but animal group wants action

That's one dude who doesn't need to be workin with the public, seriously - while it may have been necessary to put them down, doing so violently in front of a family with kids was totally out of line.

Thankfully, despite some back and forth over their morals and and priorities, our local authorities are pretty upstanding when it comes to local wildlife.

Grove the cat is a sweetheart, and his tale starts with a resuce from an overpass.

Being I have buddies in the pysch dept, I get to see her now and then, and I have my own tortishell calico, remember.

More recently the problem has been ducks with a poor sense of direction.

Given that some of the drain covers are missing thanks to metal/salvage thieves, and the ones in place not only have this problem but also tend to beat up car tires, it's worth a think about replacing them, and perhaps the local human society should be consulted on design - something to look into, anyways.

And of course, there's firefighter Jason Gravelle, who is just awesome, two for two he not only got the humans out, but went back for and rescued the pets.

Don't have a link for it, but there was a second house fire that week, and he did the same thing, went back for the cats and got them out too.

Got some video of the first one though.

I might have issues with their behavior towards humans, but our local Police/Fire/EMS folks love animals as much as I do, and that's a hopeful thought.
