Our prime minister and his trade delegation were asked by the Chinese not to wear poppies (our symbol of remembrance for war dead on memorial day) because it can be mistaken for an opium poppy - and Britain waged wars against China in the 19th century called the Opium Wars. The British delegation refused the request and wore the poppies anyway.

I thought this was an interesting episode; what do other people think about it?

It's not personal. It's just war.
