I pondered whether to post this a while, but given the paucity of content around here, might as well.

Retta's take on the drug war sham.

That one strikes home cause it's written by a local, and a lady every bit as sweet hearted as Kaylee.

HERO

I heard once about an idea to use the DEA and CIA to interdict the supply of drugs, poison them, then put them back into the system.

That would solve the drug problem.

I've been hearing about this War On Drugs since the 1960's. All I've seen over the last 4 decades is an escalation in drug use and an ever-increasing expansion of drug use amongst the youth of America.
I smoked some pot back in the late 60's and early 70's...never really got into anything "harder" thank god...but today, pot don't cut it for these kids and high-flying monied professionals. They need stronger stuff...cocaine, pills, ecstacy, etc. Drug use is a refelction of society in general. There's a lot of feelings of hopelessness and futility out there, so more and more people turn to drugs to provide a temporary escape from reality. It's really very sad that so many lives are damaged or ruined even before they have a chance to actually live a life. Peer pressure and media bombardment only seem to drive drug use to younger & younger users, and typically those without strong family support...another byproduct of a society out of control.

I love the way she has to clarify which 'sham of a war' she's talking about. There are so many to choose from.
