A collection of interesting documents

http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/bayofpigs/

" Havana, Cuba: Documents discussed on the second day of an historic meeting of former adversaries in Havana show that CIA officials believed that the Cuban people would welcome a U.S.-sponsored invasion and spontaneously rise up against the Castro regime. CIA officials also expected that Cuban military and police forces would refuse to fight against Brigade 2506, the CIA's 1400-man mercenary invasion force. "

wait a minute.... that sounds familar ?

No comment to the other war the US started and planned that the other side wouldn't fight and just welcome them ?

People have forgotten that Castro was in power for about six years when the Bay of Pigs started. The people of Cuba had not realized what was going on with Castro but if the CIA had waited a few more years then maybe the Bay of Pigs would of worked.

Maybe, but not necessarily. Cubans (like most Latin Americans) were very resentful of the U.S.'s manipulations in the region. In fact, the regime that Castro helped overthrow was propped up by the U.S. America was using Cuba as a puppet, and was allowing American corporations to ruthlessly exploit them at the same time. The U.S.'s influence is what led to the revolution in the first place.

You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.

I have always found it funny that most Americans attack Castro with such venom...

While some of his policys are not to my liking, I would say he has been alot better for Cuba than Batista whom the Americans seem to view as their guy. I have heard arguements that Castro should be put down to let democracy flourish in Cuba, but the US oppressed any democractic effort in Cuba for nearly a 100 years before that ?

So who are the oppressors and who are the freedom fighters ? a really fine but blurry line between either and both.
