Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!!! We have a winner! Tell him what he's won, Johnny!

I'm shocked and amazed! An astute and correct answer. In all cases treatment has been successful, but locking up everyone that comes to our shores that are American health professionals is ludicrous.

These folks have received training in watching for symptoms that may arise and they immediately quarantine themselves upon discovery. Before that, they are asymptomatic. HickoX tested negative for the Ebola virus, why quarantine her. Anyway, she should be the best person to tell if she is sick or not - remember the training!?

Cuomo, give him credit, came up with a solution. Paid leave. These folks volunteer on their spare time/vacation to help combat this disease. The governor came up with paying the folks who return for their 3-week imprisonment for time lost to work. Meanwhile people here are panicking unnecessarily and going overboard with locking away, and ridiculing, anyone who refuses to give in to the panic and paranoia.

My take: If it's a health professional, give them the benefit of the doubt. After all they, of all people, should know.

If it's a civilian, then they should submit to testing and possible quarantine, of course, with pay.

As already has been explained, the more symptomatic an infected person is, the greater the potential they have in spreading the disease.

But here's the kicker... they DON'T know , in many cases, how even DOCTORS got infected, after following strict guidelines.

Once again you got me!

The doctor who landed in New York had no clue, until he ran a fever of 100.3 and said, "Hmmm, maybe I should check in" - so you're right, they don't know for sure until they check themselves and find that they have some of the symptoms.

Funny how that works.

Even the first guy from Texas (although I think he had a strong idea he had it), who tried to check himself into an ER - knew to check himself. And he wasn't a doctor.

Lets not forget the first guy in Texas who died lied about contact he had with someone contaminated before he flew home to America. I am betting he did not mention that contact to doctors here.

Without being privy to the lie he told, I don't know. But I could venture a guess.
He lied, IMHO, because he knew that once here he stood a chance for better treatment and possibly surviving.

He may have been further along than he thought.

Of course, when you mention to the ER that you just arrived from West Africa, that might be a tip off you got the virus.

You do know that she has completed the time and was never infected, which is what she said from the beginning. That connotes, in case you're wondering, that she may know a thing or two about her OWN body.

A debate that many Republicans can't get through those thick dull skulls.

Imagine a woman knowing her body, will wonders never cease.

You know, we had another Ebola victim the other day. Where's the widespread panic now?

You guys kill me. The "sky is falling" only works once.

She does. As do most folks. But that's separate from her knowing if she had been infected or not.

This has exactly zero to to do w/ political affiliation. Ebola is indiscriminate that way, and in just about any other way, so caution and prudent steps must be followed. Better safe than sorry, seems to apply here as well.

Why is that so hard for you to grasp ?

Did the 2 nurses who got infected, also women, not know THEIR bodies ?

Again, politics, gender, age, skin color... all are meaningless in this story. And yet, you seem hell bent on interjecting those things. Why ?

By some miracle of modern medicine, the GOP has completely failed to care about Ebola since Wednesday, November 5th.

How very convenient.
