Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

So, I see that some posters are instantly branded as 'crazy' or 'extreme' because of what they post.

Now, it seems to me that before you brand a person 'crazy' for their ideas, you should first determine whether or not those ideas have any merit. 'Crazy' is something that has no basis in reality. An idea with a basis in reality, by definition, can't be 'crazy'.

But people seem to balk at examining certain ideas because they are too big, too unfamiliar, too uncomfortable.

For example the role the US has in the Ukraine - not as a force for 'freedom' and 'democracy', but as a long-term committed actor to deprive Russia of a partner and buffer (admitted to on tape with dollar signs attached) - no matter what the means (violent coup of a democratically elected Prime Minister) or the effect on the Ukrainian people - or even a potential to disrupt long-term nuclear détente with Russia. Then there are the broken agreements between Russia and the US regarding NATO. But such topics are, apparently, 'crazy'.

Then there's the idea of the petrodollar, an agreement between the US and OPEC that ALL oil sales from OPEC nations to anyone in the world must be paid for in US dollars (you might say that when the US went off the gold standard it went on the oil standard.) Petrodollars floated the US currency globally for a long time after the US dollar stopped being backed by US production and export. (US - Sep 17, 1985 - The United States has become a debtor nation for the first time since World War I). That various nations have been trying to broker deals between each other NOT using US dollars is a well-established fact. That they are now inking major deals between each other NOT in US dollars signals a shift who's significance should be examined. On a related topic, I wonder if the Germans have privately given up on getting their gold back out of Fort Knox. But those discussions - must be 'crazy'.

On to megadroughts. A simple lookup in wiki should tell people that this isn't a fanciful notion spawned by disaster-mongers, but a well-established observation over geologic history. And I'm sure many people have come across the idea that the Anasazi may have been doomed by a megadrought - a comfortable idea as long as it's safely in the past and far away. But that idea suddenly becomes 'crazy' when it's posited in the here and now.

Denial may not be the biggest river, but it's one of Humanity's biggest emotional crutches.
Ever been in a car accident? Remember that "This can't be happening" moment? Well, some folks LIVE that way 24/7. And it's not all their fault. Some people are so easily overwhelmed by scary monsters, that they just make the monsters drown in the Egyptian waters as matter of emotional survival. Hence the religious folk denying climate change for fear it would shake their beliefs (or maybe they're just plain scared period). And this is not taking into account the deniers who actually see the truth, but see a bigger short-term profit potential in those crocodile infested currents.

Oh geez. So now Kiki/Sig have entered matyr-holy-land. Someone somewhere didn't appreciate their contributions enough so now they say to all those who disagree: it's only because our scared little brains can't take the TRUTH and it makes us get all unfamiliar and uncomfortable and perhaps develop hives and possibly a sTRA/ange oD/d tW/Itch.

Perhaps we should not doubt, never question that what the Kik-Sig proclaims is the real and truly holy drool-free TRUTH!

Funny thing is, you two will take this post in completely the wrong way because you are incapable of hearing the irony with which it is written, or of recognizing how you've earned this mockage by assuming that whatever you say is and shall ever be The Truth.

One of (but not the only) reason I still show up in RWED is to make fun of this kind of shit.

It is too easy to resist.

Uhm - any facts to bring to the table? What's going on with the Ukraine? How about that big gas deal between Russia and China? It seems like the west's sanctions against Russia are going pretty much like I predicted - ie, badly for the west. And how about the record temperatures, record number of fires and drought! MAL4, YOU'RE on the NUTZ side lately.

You see? Name-calling can go both ways.

And that's all you've done: call names. You may as well be Jongsstraw. Why not start posting pictures of fat women? It's just as meaningful as anything else you've posted so far, because you have not once addressed the content of my posts in a rational manner. I'm beginning to think that some liberals are just like rappy, and that you're one of them.

In fact, are you SURE you're not rappy??

Nice try at deflection. Troll.

So why exactly did you keep up engaging Rap, posting crap like "If you don't reply with facts THIS (thousandth) time, I'll dismiss you FOREVER!" posted year after year (I have the links) and you with your big anti-Rap mentality and science brain somehow never learned better...?

Do you expect anyone to believe that you, with all your informative fact-checked links, are so incredibly stupid as to buy into Rap year after year? And to only go bat-shit anti-America nuts *after* your link to Rap is outed?

Logic fail.

I admit, I haven't quite lost interest in you and yours. I'm busy for the next week at least, but I'll try and check in to see how you squirm over this.

You're fun.

Swing .. swing ... swing ... miss ... fan .. whiff ...

Uhm - you're usually smarter than that. I can guarantee you're wrong. But I'm not going to try and convince you. I do wonder what's going on that you have not yet addressed any topic, but insist on vitriol, snark, and rabid attacks over ... what, exactly? Ideas that you're so wedded to you can't even think about them without falling apart? That doesn't make sense. I'm sure you know the US is a dirty dealer in foreign relations. So that it might be doing something underhanded in the Ukraine shouldn't be too much of a stretch. The petrodollar? Yeah, maybe it hasn't been a hot topic and it's unfamiliar, but a short trip with google should be enough to confirm it's a real thing in the real world. And mega-droughts - same thing. What exactly is so distressing about those topics that you can't ... .stop. ... and ... .think. ... about them ... ... ... beats me ... well, on to more productive things.

I hope things cool down.

Ummm... why should I squirm? And who is "me and mine"? I have no "mine" here; it's just me. I think you're over-thinking this forum, and it's leading you to some very dark places.

If you look back MAL4, you'll see that I really haven't changed much. I was frantic about Iraq, frothing at the mouth over the wealth inequality and the impending financial collapse, and livid over the bank bailout. I haven't been all that enamored of Democrats for a few years, either

Here, from 2011

And how about this, from 2010? Been a staunch anti-capitalist for years.
Quote:

Capitalism starved as many people as Mao and Stalin combined. NOT PN

Discussed this before, in partial detail, as I posted massacre after genocide after atrocity, all committed in the name of "freedom"... but actually for the benefit of capitalism.

At the time, I touched on capitalism's complicity in causing starvation: the policies of the World Bank and IMF in deciding that some countries - like Haiti- would be "better off" serving as reservoirs of cheap labor, the devastating effects on local agriculture of "free trade", the interest that all corporations have in supporting corrupt leaders (that includes in the USA) which create massive poverty and desperation. Turns out, there's more. Geezer, Wulf, and all you "free market" believers, read more if you dare be discomfited in your absolute belief that corporations are manna from heaven.

"How Goldman Sachs Caused a 'Silent Mass Murder,' Gambling on Starvation in the Developing World"

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=44069

You see? Not much has changed, certainly not me. Are you sure it's not you who's changed?

Anyway, there's more interesting things to talk about and think about than this teapot tempest. I have to say, looking back a few years, Dreamtrove really hit a lot of nails right on the head. Also, the level of discussion here has gone way, way down. People aren't interested anymore in talking and thinking about big things. There were many people on this board who were far more critical of the USA than I am, and they got driven off by being labeled "crazy". Gino, DT, Succotash, Kwicko... heck, even Frem and Byte don't show up anymore. So now what's left is, for the most part, a pretty narrow range of partisan opinions. An endless loop of Seinfeld.

Happy now?

The Dollar not being American, its a foreign promise note owned by foreign elitist bankers and the Fed is not really a US bank.....America still hand control over its currency with the gold standard, but with perpetual war and Nixon removing the gold value it became foreign and fiat...then with the Petro Dollar corrupt Saudi jihadists and all other kinds of people got control over the US economic affairs

If you take away all the Gold from the US Dollar and take away the house of Saud what else will back up the currency?
Coffee?
Silver?
Wheat?
Cigarettes?
IMF bit coins?
Opium?
Chinese computer chips?
Salted Fish and frankincense?
Natural Gas?
Sugar?
Cotton?

I don't see any proof offered up that they both used the same IP address. Just somebody claiming they did after she was accusing them of sock-puppetry.

I would like to see an explanation why Sigs said that she was all alone and there was only her though.

That's a little odd.

ETA: Nevermind...

Context is everything, dude.

She's not talking about her family or REAL life. She was asking him who he thought "hers" was as pertains to the RWED.

While it's obvious that she and Kiki are lockstep with each other over everything and would always take each other's sides even when they know the other person is wrong, Sigs was saying that she's all alone HERE.

This has nothing to do with her husband and daughter.

I also had two IP addresses that were not generated via a VPN that would have come from around where they say they're located too when I got nearly everyone to give that info to me.

So unless we have a third person from California here who doesn't ever admit they live in California, I have to assume they are both from different IPs.

And this was in the days before "Russian Troll"!

I think of MAGONS, NIKKI, MAL4 and the like as "do gooder" liberals. They want to "help the poor".

Instead, they should be asking themselves "Why are people poor" and solving THOSE problems to end poverty.

But, yanno, asking those questions would lead to uncomfortable thoughts, and might suggest that REAL change is necessary in order to really change things. And since they basically like things they way they are (them being beneificent and charitable and all but not having to confront any strange ideas) they wind up being nasty assholes in defense of their chosen POV.

Like I posted, I want to solve problems, not share them.

I think they got tweaked bc I - ever so gently- started to criticize St Obama.
