Right-Wing Zealots Are Already Freaking Out About The Return Of Cosmos!

Quote:The reboot of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos is here and, as Ned Twyman predicted, the anti-science crowd is furious. Unfortunately, even though it aired on FOX, Cosmos presented viewers with a scientific view of the universe and, to some, that means the end of the world. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, host of the show, continued in the tradition of walking us through the universe and presenting anti-Creation, anti-God propaganda. Can you believe he said that we are made of “star stuff” rather than invisible strands of Jesus’ love? In all of our world’s 6,000 years there has not been a more ridiculous idea than that the world was not created in six days. All this reboot of the show accomplishes is to push the liberal, atheist viewpoint through anti-Christian propaganda! After all, it was endorsed by Barack “Benghazi” Obama…right? Just take a look at what these geniuses have to say about it: Amen. For the above people, here’s an version edited for creationists. http://aattp.org/right-wing-zealots-are-already-freaking-out-about-return-of-cosmos/

It showed the Asteroid belt as chunks if rock all easily in sight of each other, while the actual density of the belt is much less dense. The same with the Oort cloud. Wish they'd gone for real science rather than pretty pictures. "When your heart breaks, you choose what to fill the cracks with. Love or hate. But hate won't ever heal. Only love can do that."

I actually only have a few fragmentary memories of anything that young, my memories start a couple of years later, and I bought the whole package until I was older, never questioned a damned thing. I know I was INTERESTED in astronomy before 8, and one of the fragmentary memories is of dad coming home from work at night...he would grab me and swing me in the air, and I would call out the planets' names as he swung me in a circle. It's a treasured memory, one of very few. I remember a big astronomy book, and a book about dinosaurs, my two favorite subjects, but no, I never questioned anything. Of course, my parents weren't religious and didn't teach from the Bible or anything, but I wouldn't have questioned it if they had, I'm sure.

Quote:Oklahoma Fox Station ‘Accidentally’ Cuts Evolution From ‘Cosmos’ A Fox station in Oklahoma edited out a reference to evolution in Cosmos. While this could be seen as a simple editing error (not uncommon), the fact that it occurred during the only reference to evolution in that episode makes it a little too coincidental. According to the Los Angeles Times, the station blamed it on a “master control operator error.” However, there was no explanation as to what that actually means. Oklahoma’s recent anti-science history. Last year, lawmakers considered a bill that would have allowed students to argue untested, faith-based claims in their papers without it affecting their grades. That bill died, but lawmakers have has proposed another anti-science bill for this year. This one is supposed to allow different views on science in the classroom. It could also let teachers teach creationism instead of evolution in the classroom. In 2009, the state legislature also critiqued Oklahoma University for hosting biologist Doctor Richard Dawkins. They were against his invitation because of his views on evolution. They called his speech “indoctrination” and said evolution “an unproven and unpopular theory.” When they failed to prevent Dawkins’ speech, they started investigating the school itself. They asked for communications records between them and Dawkins prior to the speech. The state wanted to know who paid for the event, and they wanted an itemized list of all the costs involved. The truth is that Dawkins actually waived his speaking fee for the event. He instead donated $5,000 to the Oklahomans for Science Education. The university apparently treated the whole thing as an annoyance. (Also, "Oklahoma is currently considering a law, SB 1765, that it sponsors say will help teachers encourage critical thinking in students when dealing with “scientific controversies,” including biological evolution, the chemical origins of life, global warming and human cloning. The National Center for Science Education, a watchdog group, says the bill is a backdoor way for the religious to teach creationism." http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/oklahoma-fox-station-cuts-evolution-segment-cosmos-article-1.1720481#ixzz2vwXzGHdA) This just a little piece of how Christian privilege is alive and well there. The irony of course is that the big bang was first theorized by the Catholic priest Georges Lemaître. Evolution is science, not a religion, so Oklahoma needs to teach it. It’s still entirely possible that the Fox affiliate just made a bad editing error. However, given how nutty Oklahoma seems to be, it’s more likely that they intentionally blotted out the sole mention of evolution in that episode because they didn’t want to even mention evolution. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/03/13/oklahoma-fox-cosmos-censor-evolution/
