LENO: Now this GOP infighting. Is this the worst you've ever seen it?

BOEHNER: Oh, no. Well, maybe it is. [Laughter.] It's bad.

.....

BOEHNER: Listen, I told my colleagues in July, I didn't think shutting down the government over Obamacare [would] work because the president said I'm not going to negotiate. And so I told them in August. Probably not a good idea. Told them in early September. So I said, do you want to fight this fight? I'll go fight the fight with you. But it was a very predictable disaster. And so the sooner we got it over with the better. Excerpts from transcript at http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/john-boehner-on-jay-leno-gop-i

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Spoken like the old guard, country club Republican that he is. The mere language that he uses, like 'shutting down the govt ', is pure nonsense. The GOP FUNDED the govt. ALL of it, save for the disaster that is O-Care. And he knows that, but he's too much of an inside the beltway guy to risk telling the truth and being banished from the hip cocktail party scene that he and the rest of the GOP have become so accustomed to in D.C.

Why rock the boat, eh Johnny ? Ya might spill your martini !

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I'm just a red pill guy in a room full of blue pill addicts.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Well Niki, I really think HE thought he could ride two horses going in opposite directions. His speakership depended on it. That he's publicly writing them off now means something. Either he thinks they're going to lose support and not be as big a factor as they used to be, or he's decided he just doesn't care anymore. Or ... ?

Well, if you ever wanna know if a damaged ship is gonna sink - watch the rats.
They'll always figure it out first and bail, even as the humans go into denial and try to make it unhappen.

Boehner's a politician, that pretty much says it all. His aim is to stay in power, so he'll ride whatever horse looks like it will get votes. I give him points because he HAS been trying to "tame" that particular Trojan horse for a long, long time now and has been vocal about it, that's about all.

It would be nice if you're guess is right, that the Tea Party is enough on the wane that he can get MORE public about it (albeit somewhat carefully, if you read the rest of the interview)...it would be a hopeful sign anyway. I know it's just window dressing that so many Republicans are speaking up against their nutcase extremist members, but hey, I'm allowed to hope... ;o)

Yeah well, I just hope that when they slither back under the rock and wait for the burn to fade again that folks remember what not finishing the job before has cost us.
