If we took away all the kids in this country that were over-medicated there wouldn't be a lot left...

Wonder if this has anything to do with that new brain mapping initiative?

There are issues with this story. If the story is as depicted, then it's terrible, and I'm usually against the abuses of hospital experts and psychiatrists and how they are willing to threaten child protective services on parents who do not comply.

My first psychiatrist was convinced I was a schizophrenic who put me on a hardcore medication called Risperdal, which not only had some bad psychological effects, but I gained 40 pounds of water weight in two days and my skin started to split open. When my mother confronted the doctor asking to take me off, the psychiatrist threatened to call child protective services. So I empathize.

But. The girl has a mitochondrial disease, diagnosed since she was six. Her ability to metabolize food and gain necessary energy and nutrients should be compromised. Muscle coordination and weakness, the article says. She is ten years older. And she is... an ice skater? She does not look malnourished? Is not blind or going blind, does not appear to have any forms of developmental dementia, does not appear to suffer seizures or ataxia.

Not knowing enough about the situation, it is not impossible that this is munchausen by proxy, which might be what the doctors at the Boston hospital think.

There are always issues with ANY story that's one sided, but...for nine months they have made no arrests and it's clear the girl STILL wants to go home and is fairly old enough by now to have figured that out... Nine months is an awful long time for no one to take any action.
