Why would Fox News pay $8 million in severance to a guy who was allegedly fired for “financial irregularities” and “multiple, material and significant breaches” of contract? According to Gawker, it was to keep him from talking.

Brian Lewis, the ex “right hand man” to Fox News chief Roger Ailes threatened to spill secrets after he was fired and quickly escorted out of the building last summer. Lewis was allegedly fired for “financial issues and other performance problems.” However, Politico reported that Lewis had been suspected of leaking information to writer Gabriel Sherman, author of the forthcoming unauthorized biography of Ailes:

Brian Lewis, that former "right-hand man" to Fox News chief Roger Ailes who was fired and escorted out of the building - allegedly because he leaked to Ailes critic and forthcoming biographer, Gabriel Sherman - has now retained a high-profile lawyer and is threatening to spill secrets.

Lewis has retained Judd Burstein, an entertainment lawyers whose past clients include Donald Trump and the Backstreet Boys. Burstein said he is "still plotting our course of action." But then he made this not-so-thinly-veiled threat:

But two things are very clear to me. First, Brian Lewis no longer has any confidentiality obligation to Newscorp or Roger Ailes because of the false and malicious statements made by Fox to date. Second, Roger Ailes and Newscorp have a lot more to fear from Brian Lewis telling the truth about them than Brian Lewis has to fear from Roger Ailes and his toadies telling lies about Brian Lewis. http://www.newshounds.us/fired_fox_exec_lawyers_up_08272013]

Rumors have swirled that Lewis also was suspected of helping Gabe Sherman a little bit too much with his upcoming, unauthorized biography of Ailes, which is expected to be an unflattering look at both Ailes and Fox News.

On Monday, Gawker said that the $8 million Fox News paid to Lewis was “hush money,” since Lewis’ attorney had previously said that News Corp., the former parent of Fox News, had “a lot more to fear from Brian Lewis telling the truth about them than Brian Lewis has to fear from Roger Ailes and his toadies telling lies about Brian Lewis.”

Gawker said the $8 million figure came from an insider who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “That whole financial impropriety thing was complete bullshit,” the insider said. “Everything was about Gabe Sherman.” http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/fox-news-pays-ousted-executive-6

For our FauxNews-loving righties, I'm sure they'll find validity in the fact that Drudge sees it the same:
Quote:

Matt Drudge, who runs The Drudge Report, alluded to the same in a tweet: "TRUTH: Behind scenes shitstorm around reporter Gabriel Sherman and his anti-Ailes FOXNEWS book. Top source caught. Lawyers swarm scene." http://tweetwood.com/DRUDGE/tweet/369972308598747136

Of course, the FauxNews folk and their types are circling the wagons, with Hannity tweeting "“More Gabe Sherman fiction today. Liberal lies about Fox News are never ending"--to which Sherman tweeted back: "“Hi Sean, what are you saying is specifically inaccurate about my reporting? Your tweet is vague.” ( http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/brian-lewis-breaks-silence-as-61
