I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Empathy and compassion are built into most (not all) human psyches. Without it, we would have strangled our crying, must-be-hand-carried babies the moment they caused us to slow down when running from a lion, or the fifth time they woke us up from a sound sleep.

OTOH, there is a one thing in the article that points to a less-benign view of human males:

While the article doesn't say explicitly is that MALES cause this violence, what it clearly implies is that males view females as property, even in primitive societies. (It does not address how men view children, or how women view children.) So, even at a primitive stage, the level of violence and inequity would probably be reduced significantly if there were a lot fewer males. One of the things the article doesn't point to is a matriarchal society, which probably showed an even lower level of violence and inequity than these apparently male-dominated primitive societies.

Also, the article implies... and I have repeated explicitly many times... that once you get past the "monkey sphere" size of an economy, the interactions become much more complex than just monkey-sphere reactions. The reactions of billions of people is more than just the average reaction... it is possible (even likely) that very tall hierarchies will be built, with the cooperation of many. Furthermore, war isn't an act of aggression as much as it is an act of cooperation. As hubby just pointed out, many people are prepared to sacrifice, and some even to sacrifice their lives, to defend the group they identify with. Furthermore, there are those within a society who will take advantage of the strong identity and will manipulate that for their own ends.

The idea that a world-spanning economy which involves billions of people ... the vast majority of whom you will never see... can be handled by monkey-sphere politics is a flaw of both anarchism and libertarianism.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

So, if I haven't made my point clear, the solution to our economic and societal conditions are far beyond individual behavior or even "human nature". Human behavior changes slowly over time, but due mainly to economic drivers. If you want to change behavior, you have to change the economy. There is only one fundamental driver of economies, IMHO: the use of energies, the application of advancing technology, and improved living conditions. I list all of these as a single driver because I think they are all aspects of the same thing.
