If that's what happened it's a spectacularly pathetic move on Putin's part, and on Bush's part. More like petty movie-mobster intimidation moves than anything else. Was he feeling intimidated? Did he need the shiny ring to prove something about himself? But then, Putin IS the "posing topless while fishing" guy. He's a maaanly man. *eye roll*

Russia is a deeply scary place. all that religious bigotry of late on top of the corruption and oppression of dissent. It just makes me sad.
