Yes, the characters regularly do the most boneheaded things, illogical, counter-intuitive, thoughtless, but it works for me, because it all FEELS so plausible. It feels familiar. It just feels as if, y'know, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

Quote:Originally posted by Jongsstraw: Season 3 of The Walking Dead has been the best so far. The last few episodes were amazing, and the season finale had an audience of a staggering 14 million viewers. That's twice the number that watched it the previous year. So they're in great shape, with all kinds of sponsor money available to make Season 4 even better.

Quote:Originally posted by G: I wanted to start a thread about TWD for some time but realized almost everything I had to say about it was negative. I started with the graphic novel, which can be a bit coarse and juvenile, but the tv version is so much worse. One really sad change was the character of Andrea - she is such a bad ass in the comic and such a dud in the show. And just so we're clear: It's not the characters, it's the Writers that do dumb things! I have this overwhelming feeling that they have the 5 season mandate - "stretch this thing out for 5 seasons at all costs."

My favouries are 'The Player of Games', 'Inversions' and the brillian 'Use of Weapons' Did you hear that he only has a few months left to live? Very sad. Things are a bit difficult for me in RL at the moment, so I have to be careful what I watch. Started The Walking Dead and thought it was pretty good, so may go back to it in lighter times. I watched the first couple of seasons of GoT, but frankly I hate GRRM's guts for what he did in later novels, so don't know whether i am keen to continue. Basically watch virtually nothing on TV these days.

Quote:Some other series on my list to watch when I feel better are 'Utopia' and 'Girls' (not scifi i know, but enjoyable). I also started watching a swedish series called 'Real Humans' which I enjoyed, although missed big chunks of it. So its basically Dr Who and reruns of Harry Potter for me.

Quote:Originally posted by 1kiki: FWIW one of the hospital jobs I had was doing tests on people in their rooms. No matter how many wires I attached, how cold the electrodes, how important the result - if the TV was on a soap opera they were riveted by that. So producers know how to get your attention - with close-ups (maybe not so much for you, Mal4), with fraught dialogue, camera cuts that give a sense of movement even to very static scenes, emotionally involving scenes and relationships etc. Also, I wonder if the pacing is very similar to the natural pacing of your thinking, so that it in effect hypnotizes you.
Quote:And one of the things that made Firefly VERY different from other shows is that you HAVE to watch it. In most other shows the characters explain how they feel, what they're doing, why they’re doing it, and what they expect out of their actions. You really don't need to watch. If TWD doesn't do that and you HAVE to watch it gives the show a sense of immediacy and involvement.
Quote:The show may be dealing with emotions (death, survival) you find deeply affecting.
Quote:Finally, new ideas and perspectives (which Firefly had in abundance) keep your mind focused.

Quote:Originally posted by G: Another GoodTV shout out to Homeland. Not my subject matter of choice really (I get enough of that stuff without even trying) but it is so well done. Morena B. is great, though her role is a bit limiting compared to Clair Danes' role. I don't know if CD has won any awards but her performance blows me away - I can't remember anything she's been in before or being so impressed by an actor - I watch every move she makes. A perfect match of character and actor.

Now I must find it. "I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero "I was wrong" - Hero, 2012 Mitt Romney, introducing his running mate: "Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan!"
