An Electrical Boost

Oxford neuroscientist Roi Cohen Kadosh conducted the study, which was published in the journal Current Biology.

"We did several experiments showing that if we stimulate the [correct] brain area with the right protocol, we can actually improve mathematical abilities," he says.

In his study, Cohen Kadosh used something called transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). He put electrodes on each subject's scalp and delivered a trickle of current—about a milliamp—to the brain.

"By giving this tiny electricity, we can change the responsiveness of the neurons and make them more prone to fire and to participate in a certain cognitive task," he says....

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Interesting. Maybe 'special learning headsets' will be standard in classrooms in the future.

Having said that I haven't met a student I can't teach maths to, if their attitude is good. I think better understanding of learning psychology, and the different ways different students learn will be a bigger development.

It's not personal. It's just war.

Sure. Because the current amount of propaganda hasn't worked. Drug them, control the media, beat them, etc... it just doesnt seem to make EVERYONE follow the politically correct path.

Can't shoot the ones who think, too messy.

I concur, a student who is less able, but willing to learn, who enjoys learning and applying, will over time even crush a lazy genius.

And you make good point about HOW people learn, and that it is often different from student to student, something public school takes almost no consideration of, much to their detriment.
Some kinds learn far better in a hands-on fashion, especially if they can actually see a practical application OF that knowledge benefitting them personally - that for a fact.

MAGONSDAUGHTER

Oh jeez I can already see the overpriveleged lining their kids up for this sort of thing so that can get their additional advantage in getting little Jimmy or Janey into law school or med school.

I have friends who use every current fad to improve their kids performance at school, from daily fish oil tablets to these intensive and expensive programs aimed at stimulating brain development. I think it sucks. What sort of messages does it send to the kids, and who is this about? This is about parents egos and dissatisfaction when their kids don't turn out to be Baby Einsteins (another program that shitted me to tears).

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I don't find this current research shocking, more like electrifying.
