Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

I thought we could get a series going

Romney and Ryan frequently make the point that the US's recovery has been much weaker and slower than after typical recessions. What they miss is that this was not a 'typical' recession; it was, specifically, a financial crisis. And the recovery from those is always much more painful, and slower:

Normal recessions are in blue, other lines are financial crises, where we are.

Yeah, that's one of the usual talking points. It's just a talking point, as far as I'm concerned, and only works on people who aren't aware of just HOW bad it really was. Most people are only aware of their own lives and what happens around them, so I'm sure many just thought this was no worse than previous "bumps". And what's happening in Europe is waaay to far away from their lives for them to plug into the equation. Ergo, they don't see as much improvement around their own sphere of life, and believe the talking point.

Some of us know just how bad it really was, and aren't surprised at how long it's taking to get back on track. I saw businesses die which had been around for a long time since before we even moved to Marin (35+ years). And I was paying attention, like many of us here, so I knew how bad it was. Personally, I think we're slowly coming out of it, and that we'd be coming out of it much faster if the right hadn't wanted so badly to ensure that we DIDN'T come out of it so they could hopefully gain power this year.

But all administrations fail according to you, even potential future administrations. So there is really nothing to talk about, move along to another thread.

Huh? Who were you replying to?

It's not personal. It's just war.

That's pretty much exactly the reason I basically just stick my head into any thread about politicians from either party and then walk away again without saying anything. No investment in any of them.

That said though, I think there's a point here to be found separate from the success or failure of any one administration.

Actually, I'm almost at the point where I wonder if the economic and tax policy of any administration has any impact barring spending. The administrations all seem to take tax advice from the same sources and whatever the campaign promises they eventually do what those sources say. And even spending is more of a long term problem of undermining our own currency than an immediate problem.

The economy seems to do whatever it will despite whatever the politics in the nation does, in part because of the lobbyist influence in Washington I suspect.

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.
