The shooter: Floyd Corkins II, of Herndon, Va.:

(AP) WASHINGTON – A man suspected of shooting and wounding a security guard in the lobby of a Christian lobbying group had been volunteering at a community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

A law enforcement official has identified the suspect arrested in Wednesday’s shooting as Floyd Corkins II of Herndon, Va. Investigators were interviewing his neighbors.

Another official says the shooter made a negative reference about the work of the Family Research Council before opening fire. The officials spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.

David Mariner is executive director of The DC Center for the LGBT Community. He says Corkins had been volunteering at the center for about the past 6 months. Mariner describes Corkins as “kind, gentle and unassuming.”

Q: Why is there a community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the first place ?

The silence over the Family Resource Council shooting, as we find out more and more this guy - FLOYD CORKINS - was clearly a political activist, is deafening.

I wonder why.

The media goes ape poopy over some comments Mr Cathy of CFA said, yet when a punk w/ a gun and 50 rounds walks into a building and openly states " I don't like your politics " ... distant crickets.

Too much brain-clogging trans-fats made him go bonkers.

But seriously, until there's more information there is very little to go on. There's no obvious political agenda like with Loughner (anti-government), Breivik (anti-anything other than lily white), Wade Michael Page (hated turbans, also neo-nazi) and no available history of mental illness as there was with Holmes (psychiatric alert).

And as a mass murderer, I have to say he's at least two deaths short.

Seriously, you're using the fact that he had a sack full of CFA sammiches as some sort of REASON why this volunteer at a Gay, Lesbian, Transgender 'Community Center' ,who was upset over both Mr Cathy's remarks and the political position taken by the FRC, so the took a GUN and 50 rounds of ammo, shot a security guard, while saying. " I don't like your politics! "

If you're theory were correct, there'd be gun totin' red necks, shooting up bath houses, ACLU offices and * University of Alabama football games. Don't think I caught too much of that in the news.

"... FLOYD CORKINS - was clearly a political activist ..."

Well little rappy, I challenge you to come up with a group, an affiliation, or a political agenda that he was in contact with whereby liberals espouse killing people in order to purge the country.

There's no doubt that Loughner and Page were a touch crazy (Loughner probably more, his life was falling apart from mental disorganization), but the fact is they both found support and encouragement in their craziness and violence from groups. They associated with people where they were not quite so extreme in their violence by comparison. That kind of 'normalization' of what is clearly extreme is common in extremist right-wing groups.

You want to link 'liberals' with 'shooting'. To do that you have to have more than an alleged statement made at one time by a person.

So here's the challenge -

1) Show us that Corkins acted more from a rational political motive and less from disorganized thinking, and ...

2) Show us that Corkins was encouraged and supported in his violence by liberal groups.

Otherwise, you have no argument other than your say-so. And though I know how much you FEEL and BELIEVE you're right, feelings and beliefs aren't facts.

I'll wait.

PS: Forgive that liberal GF who dumped you. You'll have a happier, more stress-free life.

Yet where was that fever for background info on the Aurora, CO shooter, when Brian Ross went on live TV and flat out called the guy a member of a TEA Party group ???

Please, you're embarrassing yourself.

Corkins said “I don’t like your politics,” according to the FBI affifavit. He then shot at Johnson, the affidavit said, and hit him in the arm.

Corkins had been volunteering at a U Street NW community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, according to officials there.

( Corkins would have performed administrative work checking in people at the front desk and would have undergone a background check )

The FBI affidavit says that agents interviewed Corkins’s parents, who said their son “has strong opinions with respect to those he believes do not treat homosexuals in a fair manner.”

I'm not asking for ALL THAT PROOF. You claim he's a political activist.

But crazy people are everywhere, even volunteering at organizations, sometimes even in PhD programs.

To claim that his violence is LINKED to LIBERAL GROUPS you have to first of all show that his violence wasn't due to him just being a random nutcase, AND that his violence could be traced to a liberal group - in other words you have to SHOW A LINK.

If that's the case it should be easy. It was easy to link Loughner's violence with sovereign citizen and right-wing extremist groups, easy to link Breivik's violence with his neo-Nazi manifesto, easy to link Page's violence with his skin-head life.

It should be easy to find a link between Corkin and a liberal-violence group if it's true.

But if there's no link, then Corkin's just a random nutcase. With a gun.

Heck, even showing links from the A&M shooter to his favorite people (all the political figures were hard-right ideologues, of course), Rappy still insists that none of those are in any way indicative of his political leanings.

I never claimed he was associated w/ a political GROUP, but his motives were CLEARLY politically driven.

He even said so. How is this not getting through? With the AZ and CO shootings, the FIRST conclusion jumped to by the MSM was that these guys HAD to be driven to such hatred, because of their affiliation to or by the words coming from the Right. Neither of those were true. And yet here, after all the astro turfed outrage directed at CFA, fanned and blown up by the media ( both social and news ) , this guy goes and specifically seeks out those who have different views than his own,and decides to shoot 'em all up.

Quid pro quo here,... only this time, it's legit.

Reading your logic is like watching a puppy chase his tail going round and round, only not as cute or as fun.

So, just to reiterate:

After repeatedly calling this a problem of 'the Left', when challenged to find an actual link between a group on 'the Left' espousing violence and Corkins, you bail. Because there is no link.

On the other side, Loughner, Breivik and Page ALL had strong links to right-wing groups that explicitly espoused violence as part of their agenda. And those explicit links to explicitly violent right-wing groups got pointed out.

And yet you somehow equate right-wing violence linked to right-wing groups that EXPLICITLY advocate violence, with a left-wing nutcase associated with no violent group.

Well, it's been another adventure in the surreal world of rappyland. I honestly wonder how it is that you live there.

There can be no valid opposing views, no disagreement at all. Rappy simply cannot tolerate it.

Actually, this guy WAS driven to shoot because of the rhetoric coming from the Left.

That's the point. After all the false attempts by the MSM to place blame for event after event on the Right, it comes out that the FRC shooter absolutely was retaliating over the perception , flamed on by the MSM's constant coverage and spin on the whole Chick Fil A nonsense.

No idea why the shooter bought a sack of CFA sammiches. ( But the FRC did come out in support of Chick Fil A, as did millions of other Americans. ) Maybe he was going to eat one for each person he murdered ? Who knows... but the whole point is, his motives were clearly political, unlike all the other shootings the MSM tried to tie into the TEA party or right wing -hate radio.

And I just love this straw man that you've constructed , that because there was no GROUP associating here w/ the FRC shooter, he can't be a political motivated ? Who the hell wrote that rule ? Corkins actually said.. " I don't like your politics ".

What the hell more do you want ? And it's not just me who sees what's going on here...

Quote:

On the day after gunman Floyd Corkins attacked the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., ABC's World News on Thursday was the only broadcast network evening newscast to run a followup report which elaborated on Corkins's political opposition to the group's conservative views.

Correspondent Pierre Thomas recounted that the gunman was "frustrated about the treatment of homosexuals" and was "angry about the Family Research Council's conservative Christian values, and its recent support of the owner of Chick-fil-A."

Thomas concluded by noting that the FRC criticized the liberal Southern Poverty Law Center for "rhetoric" it has used against the conservative group in recent years.

The ABC correspondent notably did not apply any ideological labels to the Southern Poverty Law Center when it was mentioned, or to the liberal views of the gunman, which is consistent with the general tendency of journalists to seldomly label liberal political groups or individuals.

Also of note, on Wednesday, World News led with a full report on the shooting, while the CBS Evening News and the NBC Nightly News only ran short news briefs after the day's other main stories. CBS's Bob Schieffer on Wednesday vaguely hinted at the gunman's political motivations as he related to viewers that Corkins "made negative comments about the Council's work" after the CBS substitute anchor had identified FRC as a conservative group.

Much more valid point, Mal4, than all the idiocy here of "he was right-wing", "no, he was left-wing".

The basic fact remains that there have been shooters affiliated with either side, but the one thing they have in common was that they were white, male, unbalanced, and had connections indicative of their leaning one way or the other. Ergo, be it conservative or liberal, their own mentality was at fault and they took their politics to an extreme others would not.

So aside from all being white and male, I would venture to say that the acrimony on BOTH sides has fed into the willingness of some unbalanced people to act out. Blaming one side or the other is absurd; there have been shooters with each ideology behind them, but in my opinion it is the extremity to which their mentality was bent which gave them fodder to act out.

You can debate liberal v. conservative all day, when what's really at issue is mental instability, and the fact that it seems to be affecting white males to act out more than anyone else, with, I would posit, the driving force behind it being the rhetoric they hear these days from politicians. We should be considering THAT, rather than trying to blame "the other side".

No, it's a different ABC news...

What's your point ?

That it's funny to watch you try to play Twister to contort yourself into such a position where you'll find them a credible news source when they confirm your beliefs, but a completely rubbish source when they challenge your beliefs.

I wondered how you could get your head so far up your ass, but now I realize you are amazingly flexible from all the twisting and contortions you have to go through every day just to keep from running face-first into the truth!

Yeah, you're not even making any sense here. Brian Ross goes on LIVE t.v. to report that some guy w/ a similar name as the Aurora shooter was a member of a local TEA Party group, and on THAT alone, he draws the conclusion that the two guys were one in the same.

He got it COMPLETELY wrong, but ran w/ a story before anything was checked out, purely on his googling abilities, and nothing more.

Where were the facts on the FRC shooter false ? Please, elaborate.

To quote Jayne, " Later on you can explain to me how that's a comfort."

OK, so there's no comfort meant there, I get it. White guys go on shooting sprees, and black guys do their killing 1 or 2 at a time. If it's a contest, everyone is losing.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

So, just to get the last word in - I see little rappy has once again FAILED to prove his point - that the shooter belonged to a group on THE LEFT that espoused violence, and that, rather than being a problem of a lone nutcase with a grotch, this was a problem of THE LEFT as a group.

But then, he FAILS at so many things, it's not a surprise he failed at this, too.
