Third Time Is 'Right Time,' Says Presidential Hopeful Ron Paul

Friday, May 13, 2011
By Susan Jones

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) says the time is right for him to make another run for president of the United States.

"Time has come around to the point where the people are agreeing with much of what I've been saying for 30 years," he said in a Friday the 13th (Kill All The Freemasons Day) interview with ABC's "Good Morning America.

Paul planned to make his formal announcement in Exeter, New Hampshire later Friday morning.

Rep. Paul, a physician, describes himself as the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency.

The congressman’s Web site says he never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution, and he takes pride in his consistent voting record, which is described as follows on the RonPaul.com fan website:

-- He has never voted to raise taxes.
-- He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
-- He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
-- He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
-- He has never taken a government-paid junket.
-- He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
-- He voted against the Patriot Act.
-- He voted against regulating the Internet.
-- He voted against the Iraq war.
-- He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
-- He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Ron Paul’s congressional Web site sets for his “freedom principles,” as follows:

-- Rights belong to individuals, not groups.
-- Property should be owned by people, not government.
-- All voluntary associations should be permissible -- economic and social.
-- The government's monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.
-- Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.
-- The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government's.
