A non-issue; long before it was all hollered about, the people behind it said quite clearly it was in the hope of thumbing their nose at the terrorists and building bridges. That's one of the smartest things I've seen out of anyone calling themselves Democrat in at least a year... although it sounds to me like the only person likely to honor it is the guy who came up with the idea and who probably has the worst chance of winning due to the lowest name recognition on the list.

I don't know why the NYT bothered to mention the idea of the Republican joining with them in this little scheme though. They only mentioned it once as if they were trying to plant their own seed into the conversation.

I see no reason why the Republican should do that. As I said just last week sometime, the Republican probably has his greatest chance of ever winning that seat because of how split the vote would be between the Democrat and the Independent ticket.
