Fact: Prohibition doesn't work.

Ran across this little bit, and it sounds all too familiar.
You ban booze, you get bootleggers.

Seriously, I am sore tempted to have a chat with some of my relatives up in the hills and encourage em to give these guys advice on how to get it done from real professionals, as well as safely brew their own shine, whiskey and beer without having to depend on risky supply lines via westerners.
(EDIT: For the record, Syrians brew some damn good beer if you can get your hands on it, Al-Shark in particular is some quality stuff, and Barada is a good second choice as well, being easier to get.)

I've already managed to elicit a certain sympathy for these poor bastards by pointing out that fringe and tribal area folk are the middle eastern equivalent of rednecks and hillbillies, and this vid here is gonna go even further cuttin right through those religious and racial preferences - it's kinda hard to hate on someone so much like you, who's shared many of the same problems and misadventures even if they are from a different religion, race and culture, thousands of miles away.

Hell, if uncle carl was still around today, I could see him gettin a visa and goin over there to show em how it's done... and prolly a side course on givin them damn tali-tubbies what-fer too!

Ever since we realized just how similar their lot in life is, the hillfolk of my family have been surprisingly sympathetic to the plight of these people, and that's a damn sight better than hatin on em for idiotic reasons of intolerance when they're so alike in so many ways.

Yeah, how different and how similar, depending...

Alcohol being prohibited has been there for eons...why do you think hashish was/is so popular, among other things? Stop mankind from finding some form of escape, he'll go underground and/or find another.
