Again, this is what happens in wars, because in order to train folks to kill other people they got no issue with, first you must train them to dehumanize and despise them.

But also in regard to administration and coordination, cause there's been more than a couple friendly fire incidents because of it, one in particular involving a tank shelling a building with US troops in it - the troops followed procedure and popped a white star cluster and calling blue on blue, and the tank crews followed procedure by IMMEDIATELY ceasing fire till the positions of friendly forces were confirmed - and yet all the howling was for the heads of the tank crew ?

Oh hell no, the command of those units are the responsible parties, and yet as usual they blame the grunt on the ground and the officers get a free pass, which is why this happens, over and over again - command has responsibilities, and it damned sure oughta be held to them.

Also, I mentioned the complete disrespect practiced by our troops in a country that often prizes personal honor over life itself, THIS video is a case example, while the excuse is that it's avoiding ambush, the end effect of acting like this is practically *begging* for one, because all those folk you just disrespected and insulted, some of em are *going* to retaliate, maybe not now, but when you drive down that road tomorrow and someone sets off a mine under your humvee, odds are it's one of the folk you just pissed off by doing this shit the day before.

Tell me, did YOU see any threats, incoming fire, any particular reason to be such assholes ?

I can understand the need to keep moving, and when they shifted around to the other lane, but smackin people with the bumper that you coulda just gone round without it (like that bus) JUST CAUSE YOU CAN is bullshit, and accellerating toward the kid trying to get outta the way was over the top.

And mind you, this is typical behavior.

Oh - on an unrelated note, I finally figured out why Yuriko's friends call american troops "Stupidbunnies", cause they're USA GI's...

Apparently the word "usagi" has something to do with rabbits - anyhows, they call em "stupidbunnies", which is quite apt, if you ask me.

You know what this reminded me of? What Israeli soldiers do. They have been trained to dehumanize the enemy so much that they no longer can distinguish between civilian and combatant.

If you read it carefully, they don't call the victims "civilian males." They call them "military-aged men." Clever, ain't it? The report says our soldiers had no reason to assume that "noncombatants" were in the area. So see, the language itself doesn't see "civilians" anymore--only military-aged males and noncombatants. Everything is in terms of the enemy. That's a serious mind-fuck right there.

The infantry had been under small arms and RPG fire that day (page 12). The chopper was supposed to help scout for armed insurgents. So that's the context of the engagement.

HK, I so agree with you about the systematic evil that is in this type of warfare. All war is abhorrent. But whenever the war starts to lose the distinction between civilians and combatants, civilians become the enemy. At this point, the kind of horror we saw in the Rape of Nanking and the Holocaust is just a stone's throw away.
