I feel a bit intimidated by the levels of intelligence I see in some of the discussions here though. But I'm sure that won't stop me from adding my 2 cents worth to the fray.

Quote:DANNY GLOVER: That means that other countries in the region — Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba and other countries have already accepted the point that this is a great moment for another type of internationalism, you know. And I hope we seize this particular moment because the threat of what happens in Haiti is the threat that can happen anywhere in the Caribbean to these island nations, you know? They're all in peril because of global warming; they're all in peril because of climate change. When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I'm saying?

Quote:NEW GLOBAL WARMING GLOBAL GOVT TAX SCANDAL 18 Jan 2010 FRESH doubts were cast over controversial global warming theories yesterday after a major climate change argument was discredited. The International Panel on Climate Change was forced to admit its key claim that Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035 was lifted from a 1999 magazine article. The report was based on an interview with a little-known Indian scientist who has since said his views were “speculation” and not backed up by research. It was also revealed that the IPCC’s controversial chairman, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, described as “the world’s top climate scientist”, is a former railway engineer with a PhD in economics and no formal climate science qualifications. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/152422/The-new-climate-change-scandal

Quote:President Hugo Chavez Says U.S. Weapon Caused Haitian Earthquake Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez Wednesday accused the United States of causing the destruction in Haiti by testing a ‘tectonic weapon’ to induce the catastrophic earthquake that hit the country last week. President Chavez said the US was “playing God” by testing devices capable of creating eco-type catastrophes, the Spanish newspaper ABC quoted him as saying. A 7.0-magnitude quake rattled the desperately poor country on January 12, killing an estimated 100,000 to 200,000 people. As Haiti looks to the world for basic sustenance, the authorities say the biggest dangers facing survivors are untreated wounds and rising disease. Chavez said the killer earthquake followed a test of "weapon of earthquakes" just offshore from Haiti. He did not elaborate on the source of his claim. The outspoken leader had earlier accused the US of occupying Haiti "under the guise of the natural disaster." At least 11,000 US troops have been dispatched to the country to provide security for aid distribution efforts. Venezuelan media have reported that the earthquake "may be associated with the project called HAARP, a system that can generate violent and unexpected changes in climate." HAARP, the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, is a study run in Alaska directed at the occasional reconfiguration of the properties of the Earth's ionosphere to improve satellite communications. Former US Secretary of Defense William Cohen in 1997 expressed concerned over countries engaging "in eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves." http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=116688§ionid=351020704
Quote:A Haiti Disaster Relief Scenario Was Envisaged by the US Military One Day Before the Earthquake Quote: “Last Tuesday, from his room at the Hotel Montana near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, U.S. Air Force Maj. Ken Bourland sent an e-mail to his wife telling her that he was fine and had just settled in for what was going to be an exciting time taking a disaster preparedness course.” A Haiti disaster relief scenario had been envisaged at the headquarters of US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) in Miami one day prior to the earthquake. The holding of pre-disaster simulations pertained to the impacts of a hurricane in Haiti. They were held on January 11. (Bob Brewin, Defense launches online system to coordinate Haiti relief efforts (1/15/10) -- GovExec.com, complete text of article is contained in Annex) The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), which is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Defense (DoD), was involved in organizing these scenarios on behalf of US Southern Command.(SOUTHCOM). Defined as a "Combat Support Agency", DISA has a mandate to provide IT and telecommunications, systems, logistics services in support of the US military. (See DISA website: Defense Information Systems Agency). On the day prior to the earthquake, "on Monday [January 11, 2010], Jean Demay, DISA's technical manager for the agency's Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, happened to be at the headquarters of the U.S. Southern Command in Miami preparing for a test of the system in a scenario that involved providing relief to Haiti in the wake of a hurricane." (Bob Brewin, op cit, emphasis added) The Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project (TISC) is a communications-information tool which "links non-government organizations with the United States [government and military] and other nations for tracking, coordinating and organizing relief efforts".(Government IT Scrambles To Help Haiti, TECHWEB January 15, 2010). The TISC is an essential component of the militarization of emergency relief. The US military through DISA oversees the information - communications system used by participating aid agencies. Essentially, it is a communications sharing system controlled by the US military, which is made available to approved non-governmental partner organizations. The Defense Information Systems Agency also "provides bandwidth to aid organizations involved in Haiti relief efforts." There are no details on the nature of the tests conducted on January 11 at SOUTHCOM headquarters. DISA's Jean Demay was in charge of coordinating the tests. There are no reports on the participants involved in the disaster relief scenarios. One would expect, given DISA's mandate, that the tests pertained to simulating communications. logistics and information systems in the case of a major emergency relief program in Haiti. The fundamental concept underlying DISA's Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project (TISC) is to "Achieve Interoperability With Warfighters, Coalition Partners And NGOs" (Defense Daily, December 19, 2008) Upon completing the tests and disaster scenarios on January 11, TISC was considered to be, in relation to Haiti, in "an advanced stage of readiness". On January 13, the day following the earthquake, SOUTHCOM took the decision to implement the TISC system, which had been rehearsed in Miami two days earlier: Quote:"After the earthquake hit on Tuesday [January 12, 2010], Demay said SOUTHCOM decided to go live with the system. On [the following day] Wednesday [January 13, 2010], DISA opened up its All Partners Access Network, supported by the Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, to any organization supporting Haiti relief efforts. The information sharing project, developed with backing from both SOUTHCOM and the Defense Department's European Command, has been in development for three years. It is designed to facilitate multilateral collaboration between federal and nongovernmental agencies. Demay said that since DISA set up a Haiti Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Community of Interest on APAN on Wednesday [the day following the earthquake], almost 500 organizations and individuals have joined, including a range of Defense units and various nongovernmental organizations and relief groups. Something struck me as ironically funny about Jameron chiding another poster on their spelling of the word "laff" (which IS another accepted albeit incorrect spelling, as in calling something "a laff riot" or "a laffer") - and doing so in a post just RIDDLED with misspellings. So I called forth an old identity that used to haunt the Honda boards back in the 20th century. The Spelling Fairy™ is the somewhat gentler companion to The Grammar Nazi™, and goes around correcting poor spelling with a *tink* of a magic wand. And yes, Niki, correcting "ya" was over the top. That was the point; since Jameron saw fit to throw a fit over the word "laff", I figured it was only appropriate to call him on his use of informal language as well. By the way, I promise to only let The Spelling Fairy™ work for the greater good.

Quote:The earthquake bomb, or seismic bomb, was a concept that was invented by the British aeronautical engineer Barnes Wallis early in World War II and subsequently developed and used during the war against strategic targets in Europe. Wallis' idea was to drop a large, heavy bomb with a hard armoured tip at supersonic speed so that it penetrated the ground — an effect comparable to a ten-ton bullet being fired straight down. It was then set to explode underground, ideally to the side of or underneath a hardened target; the resulting shock wave would produce the equivalent of a miniature earthquake, destroying any nearby structures such as dams, railways, viaducts, etc. Wallis also argued that, if the bomb penetrated deep enough, the explosion would not breach the surface of the ground and thus produce an underground cavern or camouflet, which would remove the structure's underground support, thus causing it to collapse.[1] The process was graphically described as a "trapdoor effect" or "hangman's drop". Wallis' first concept was for a ten-ton bomb that would explode some 130 ft (40 m) underground. To achieve this, the bomb would have had to be dropped from 40,000 feet (12 km). Later in the war, Barnes Wallis made bombs based on the “earthquake bomb concept”, such as the Tallboy and Grand Slam, although these were never dropped from more than about 25,000 feet (8 km). Even from this low height, the earthquake bomb had the ability to disrupt German industry while causing minimum civilian casualties. It was used to disable the V2 factory, bury the V3 guns, sink the Tirpitz and the U-Boats in their protective pens at St. Nazaire, as well as to attack many other targets which had been impossible to damage before. One of the most spectacular attacks was shortly after D-Day, when a Tallboy was used to prevent German tank reinforcements from moving by train. Rather than blow up the tracks — which would be repaired in a day or so — the bomb was targeted on a tunnel through a mountain. It was dropped on the mountain, drilled straight through the rock, and exploded in the tunnel below. As a result, the entire rail line remained unusable until the end of the war. After World War II, the United States developed the 43,600 lb (19,800 kg) T12 demolition bomb that was designed to create an earthquake effect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_bomb

Quote:Others [terrorists] are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves… So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations…It’s real, and that’s the reason why we have to intensify our [counterterrorism] efforts.
Quote:“The revealed secrets surprised legislators,” writes Dr. Nick Begich. “Would an inquiry into the state of the art of electromagnetic manipulation surprise lawmakers today? They may find out that technologies developed out of the HAARP experiments in Alaska could deliver on Gordon MacDonald’s vision because leading-edge scientists are describing global weather as not only air pressure and thermal systems, but also as an electrical system.”
