I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Hey, truth NEVER stopped you, did it OTB ? Or reason.

http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp

Claim: Vice President Al Gore claimed he invented the internet.

Status: FALSE

Origins: Despite the derisive references that continue even today, Al Gore did not claim he "invented" the interent, nor did he say anything that could be reasonably interpreted that way.

Yep, OTB, you accomplished something remarkable. At this point, your credibility - which had been zero - is now in the negative numbers.

I read the whole story over there on CNN. This was no Earth shattering event- it was a middle step, maybe a *T*I*N*Y* milestone, on the continuous progression of computer inter-communication. It cannot have been the first time a computer communicated with another computer, even by phone. It might have been the longest distance computers had communicated up to that point, but that's all.

So it is with your source , 'origins' and cred...

IF you could find a credible shrink , and IF you could be honest , THEN you could permaybehaps get help with your 'transference' issues...

No one here imagines that to be possible , though . What compels your reflexive anti-truth reactions ?

Snopes claims ScamBO has produced a legit birth certificate , but ScamBO ain't showing it...

Snopes is also notoriously revisionist in their approach to Internet 'truth'...

“During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.” --Al Gore

Took the initiative...Like he was the number one guy , or originated the idea , even...

It's like saying the first guy who banged 2 rocks together was the father of music.

He's not even using the word right:

"We had just by then connected the first two host computers to the Internet." There wasn't an Internet yet.

"The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standardized Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope that are linked by copper wires, fiber-optic cables, wireless connections, and other technologies."

I wasn't going to say it, but it's true, not that I by the birther nonsense, but that snopes is a political hack and not in any way a credible source.

I heard this from a guy who was working for Gore at the time "Al was a big shot, he always wanted to be riding the wave of anything big, but he could spot what was going to be big. Privatization of DARPAnet was obviously going to pass with ease, since almost no one in the military was using it, and all the major nodes had become universities. He signed his name on the bill to 'be a pioneer' long after it was predestined to happen."

In retrospect, I suppose the same goes for Gore and global warming, and that John Kerry is very similar. The guy in question was a democrat, and still works for the democratic party, occasionally runs for office, but doesn't have the respect for party leadership that would get you the support...

The point was, internet, born in 1969. There were many milestones, and you can nitpick, but essentially, the internet has turned 40. BBN got to work on the idea right away, designing the structure based on a WWII era design for the HTTP. People would be sending email within a year or two.
