I am proposing much the same idea locally, and seems I am indeed not alone in wondering why the hell should we pay a bunch of goons that not only do not do their job, but actively contribute to the misery ?

Port Barrington suspends police operations, puts officers on leave

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said his deputies routinely respond to nighttime calls in Port Barrington, when the village's officers are off duty, and so the additional service should not be a problem.

"We are, by default, their police department now," he said. "It's not a drain on our resources. We're happy to do it."

In other words, those guys were nothing more than a freakin protection racket to begin with - but he can't come out and SAY that about his gangbangin blue colors Homies, cause, yanno, might get the beatdown for it.

Only difference between the Badges, the Bloods, and the Crips, is perceived legitimacy.

And to be blunt, the Latin Counts do a MUCH damn better job protecting the community, up to and including sponsoring education - see any cops around offering scholarships to poor kids, do ya ?

Smart bastards too, kind of a patronage system where the folks they help out come back and invest in the community.

Sure, they deal dope - but so does Merck, GSK and the rest of big pharma, and when you cut to the quick, in many cases it's the SAME FUCKIN DOPE, big pharma just has fancy names and charges fifteen times more for it - only reason they're backin the drug war is cause they hate the competition.

Do they rob folks, sure - but fuck, their robbery is cheaper and often less brutal than police "protection", so what's the damn difference ?
And most of the robbin is not REALLY a whole lot different that what happens at a toll booth, and for much the same reasons.

Are they crooks, hell yes - but given the conduct of the forces of "Law and Order" over the past twenty years...

I'll take the freakin crooks, thanks.

Cheaper, more efficient, and as a general rule LESS abusive of the general populace - one might almost call it free enterprise, from a certain point of view, neh ?

Particularly harsh on this one cause we finally got a workable truce with the local syndicates regarding site three and *they* actually honor it - whilst the corrupt and brutal local "police" are treacherous, dishonest, expensive, and thanks to the inherent STUPIDITY of perceived legitimacy we are very limited in how we can act against them, for they are a LARGER threat to this community than any internal or external criminal enterprise.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it
