Y'all are prolly too young to remember Sledge Hammer www.sledgehammeronline.com the gun-toting nutcase cop. Funniest conversation between him and his partner Dori Doreau went like this:

Sledge: Guns don't kill people. You know what kills people?

Dori: (sigh) People. People kill people.

Sledge: No.

I'm surprised security didn't bag this guy, honestly, NASA's usually pretty tight on security with a well trained force to do it.

It's also one of the rare few places even I would leave the piece in the car, because..
A- They have armed gaurds who you'd have to get through to get to me.
B- Huge amounts of sensitive equipment everywhere.

Security failures happen alas, but I would certainly be taking issue with site security over how they let someone with a piece on-site, and discussing a revamp of security procedure at this point.

I dunno, a NASA tech site ?
I suppose a security wand-over on entry would be a tolerable measure given the sensitivity and nature of the place, although it pains me greatly to say that.

I think they did the best they could given the situation.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it
