Heard this one on the radio last night, but here it is in print , from a link to Michael Grunewald on Slate:
Quote:

Republican congressmen quietly enact a provision to oust the Pentagon's inspector general for Iraq, Stuart Bowen Jr., a dogged investigator who has uncovered billions of dollars in waste and abuse. After the provision is exposed, GOP leaders say they'll find someone just as qualified to watch the bottom line in Iraq.

This is the guy who just announced that 1000's, maybe 100,000's, of US supplied weapons are missing in Iraq. Gee, can't guess where they might have gone.

And the honorable, smart, truthful, honest, patriotic, anti-terrorist Repubs, instead of blaming somebody who screwed up, blame the whistle-blower.

Oh, well, he's probably a Democrat, and a Kerry supporter.

No those weapons didn't go missing. Everything is fine in Iraq, I spoke to a soldier, well I spoke to a cook who worked in Iraq, well he was buying a rack, point is he told me everything was fine so any evidence to the contrary must be made up by naysayers.

Move along, nothing to see here.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
No one can see their reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.

gonna reply to myself, I can't resist-- this just keeps getting better and better. Bowen is a Republican, from Texas, an acquaintance and reportedly friend of Bush...

The simple answer is here:

Duncan Hunter, ie Corruptomundo, is in favor of pulling this guy, and Susan Collins, John Warner and Russ Feingold want him to stay. He should stay. I no longer know which side of the bread Joementum is on.

I followed the link. The story says that some of them want to try to revive the agency. The bill to kill it has passed. It's over. It's dead, cardiac arrest-- the heart ain't beatin'. *I*F* they can get enough help, quick enough, *M*A*Y*B*E* they can get it revived before it's brain dead. But the folks they need to help voted to kill it.
