Oh well. Maybe next year the NL West can get a team out of the first round.

Sigh.

Now I've got to figure out who I'm rooting for...

Oakland? Ugh. Bad "Bash Brothers" flashbacks. * Shudder *.

St. Louis? Eh. No love for taking out the Pawds.

New York? Likewise, re: the boys in blue.

Detroit? Hey, if they're good enough for Thomas Magnum... Woo hoo. Gooooooo, Tigers!

* edit: Shit! In my wine fueled editing I replaced my original post rather than replying. Oh well. It wasn't life altering or anything.

Carry on.

Keep the Shiny side up

I generally enjoy baseball, but this year has been rough. I grew up in Atlanta and now live in metro D.C., and the Braves and Nats have both sucked pretty bad this year. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through the pennant races.

I'm probably not the classic baseball fan, as I don't really go in for the stats and streaks and records very much. I just like the action of the game, and the idea that on such a large field -much more area than a football field - the difference between winning an losing is often a matter of inches.

What happened? He see your face?

Football (American) is my favorite. I grew up in a small town in Northeastern NC. Friday nights were dominated by the pigskin. I played Wide receiver and safety and tried not to get killed. Long before the Carolina Panthers were a franchise, most people were Redskins fans. So, never being one for the bandwagon, I chose the rival Cowboys as my team. That and my grandfather was a fan and used to live in Texas. When the Panthers came along I still remained loyal to the 'boys, but will certainly root for the Panthers.

Then you have college basketball that takes over soon after with Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, NC State, etc rivalries right up the road. Love March Madness!

THE Only thing that ever gets me worked up though is my alma mater East Carolina. (School of about 23,000 grad and undergrad located in Greenville, NC) The college game atmosphere for football with the tailgating and the inebriation is awesome. It becomes more about, food, drink, and catching up with cronies (whoa.. I said “cronies”) as watching the game. Good stuff. …AND we had #4 WVU where we wanted them last Sat. holding them to about a third of there avg. on the ground. But they pulled away in the fourth. …and our mascot is a Pirate!!! Gotta love that.

...and let's go Stanley Cup winners Carolina Hurricanes!!!!!!!!!!!

Oohhh, a sports thread! Football is my favorite as well. I played in high school as a defensive tackle, but lacked the size or talent to play at the next level. Damn genetics. Let's go Hokies, beat those Yellow Jackets! And you gotta' love the Hurricanes starting out 1 and 2! Bwa-haa-haa-haa... In the NFL, I am a Dolphins fan (hangs head in shame), but am hoping Culpepper and the O-line can their sh*t together. If they can't beat the Texans though...

College basketball comes in at a close second. I hate UNC and Duke and am a Kentucky Wildcats fan. Tubby will do better this year. Don't really care for the NBA, it's just not competetive and the rules never seem to apply to the star players.

Hockey trails in third place. I kinda' lost track of it after the last lockout. But you gotta' respect players in the NHL. They play almost as many games as MLB and it's as hard on the body as the NFL. It's a shame there aren't more fans, because those guys deserve NFL money for the hits they take.

NEWOLDBROWNCOAT

Baseball is the only sport I follow.

I was born in L.A., raised a Dodger fan. IN the 60's we moved to Northern California, where my mom & I were the only 2 Dodger fams in Jint-land. Came back to L A for college and became an Angels fan. SO my team is out of it, in spite of a good effort.

Oh, well, time to cheer on the Yankees...
