For Hiroshima. And Nagasaki. And for the Rape of Nanking. And the London Blitz. And Pearl Harbor. And Dresden. And the Holocaust. And Stalin’s purges. And Mao’s Cultural Revolution. And Pol Pot. And Rwanda. And the World Trade Center 9/11. And for so many, many, many other similar events.

For every time that those, convinced of their righteousness, who had the means and the motive and acted to visit their particular version of Hell on those who hadn’t the foresight or the means to prevent it. May the souls of the selfrighteous be damned to the most, most special hell.

Respond as you see fit, but please spend a long moment thinking about it first. This isn’t a moment for politics or flame or personalities. It’s a moment for humanity. And sometimes that’s a damned hard existence to occupy.

CHRISISALL

Thinking on these events does not fill me with anger, rather it makes me feel the need to hug my wife and son, and relish the life we have left to us.

Such people can kill you, but only you - can make you afraid.

Stand tall, one and all.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Perfessergee- Your list reminds me that horrors have been committed by all sides. The frightening things is that some of these horrors were justified by an "ideal" - racial purity, economic justice, liberty, religious conversion. When we have an ideal so firmly in mind that we can no longer see it's on-the-ground effects... well, that's when we've slipped into fanaticism.

EMBERS

I agree with SignyM, fanatism and the deaths of innocents can occur for any cause, no matter how just one believes it to be...
so I agree with Chrisisall, and embrace my family and friends.

Well, aggressive totalitarian regimes and the wars they inflict are terrible things. I don’t have any argument with that.
