Finn,

I was replying to this: "And frankly, I have a lot more condemnation for countries that didn’t turn an about-face vis-à-vis Iraq, then I do with those that did."

Since that condemnation didn't come after Hussein's civilian CW attacks, or after his invading Kuwait, what is/ are your criteria for condemning Iraq?

No. I'm saying that sometimes, no matter which decision you make, even if it is to make no decision at all, bad things ensue. Sometimes not being involved is not the best choice of a limited number of bad choices. If Iran had prevailed in the Iran-Iraq war, I can't see the world being better off now.
So, can you think of something else to do besides supporting the use of chemical warfare, or applying sanctions? (which BTW is not "doing nothing").

I think both US and British support for Iraq was gone or heavily eroded by 1990. And most other countries had had it with Hussein by then too.

But the condemnation you refer to didn't come until over ten years later, with the invasion of Iraq.

Not really. Either one leads to a less than optimal result. Sometimes that's the best you can get. Would the 1984 creation of a fundamentalist Islamic state that encompassed both Iran and Iraq, which would include Iraq's chemical and biological weapons programs, be a better outcome?

No, the condemnation I refer to came one year later with the invasion of Iraq, weapon’s inspections and sanctions.

Geezer, I support a more proactive solution that applies to Iran as well as Iraq. Among other things, it involves not using proxies to fight wars. Seems we get into the deepest sh*t that way. Gotta get ready for the day. TTUL.

It's a real shame that we can't put Saddam & his 2 boys back in power in Iraq...they sure knew how to control the religious maniacal killers in that country.

We need to get out of Iraq as fast as possible...let all the old Baathists go free and let them get Iraq back under their dominance.

Saddam & his Baathists were useful idiots for America after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, and they are needed more than ever now ...again, to thwart the maniacal and diabolical plans of Iran's newest mass-murderer wannabe.

Nathan's kilts rule!
