So, just to revisit.

There was no cloud on enriched U235 circling the globe, no matter how trace. I imagine what that means is that the underground bunker/ cavern at Fordow hasn't caved in, causing a cloud of radioactive dust to poof out.

Rumor has it that the U235 was relocated. Grossi, the head of the IAEA, is insisting that Iran tell him where it is and the Iranians, suspecting that Grossi will simply inform the USA/ CIA and Mossad, refuse to tell him.

But I was thinking about those centrifuges. They're extremely high speed. I don't know exactly how they work, but they sound similar to turbomolecular pumps. And those pumps just HATE sudden jolts or power failures. They need to be spun down gradually. I imagine those centrifuges are even worse. It's possible that the cavern itself is intact, but the centrifuges are toast. Something to look up.

Also heard some discussion of the damage done to Israel, which depends greatly on imports and to some extent on tourism.

Those missiles raining down on Israel were aimed primarily at Haifa port, Ben Gurion Airport (Israel's only), and financial and business sectors in Tel Aviv. Israel might have stuck out the war longer, but they were out of air defenses.

Israel Suffered Extensive Damage

Despite the arduous efforts of Israeli censors to hide the devastation Iran inflicted on Israel with its barrage of ballistic missiles during the 12-Day War, information is emerging that destroys the myth that Israel had an impregnable air defense. The map at the head of this article reveals the sites targeted by Iran. Based on the videos of strikes in Haifa and Tel Aviv, I think this map accurately portrays the massive scale of the Iranian attack. For the first time in its history, Israel took a major beating.

According to various Israeli media reports, damage spanned residential buildings, scientific infrastructure (e.g., labs at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot), the Israeli Defense Ministry complex, and commercial hubs like the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Iran also struck a military target near the Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva. The medical center was hit by the blast wave, which caused extensive structural damage, a chemical leak, and dozens of injuries. The Israeli press claimed this was a direct strike on Soroka, but the fact that no one was killed undermines that claim.

Iran also struck the following residential areas, reportedly targeting Israeli military and intelligence officials:

Bat Yam: 9 killed, ~200 wounded; high-rise apartments destroyed.
Ramat Gan: Nine buildings destroyed, hundreds displaced.
Haifa and Tel Aviv: Strikes near military HQs (“Kirya”) and civilian neighborhoods.

Iran also caused extensive damage to the Port of Haifa and the Port of Ashdod (Note, I had no information on the latter when I posted yesterday.), as well as the refineries at Haifa and Ashdod. Israel has maintained a complete blackout on the damage to its military and intelligence facilities, but the sites identified on the map above indicate that Iran likely enjoyed similar success as that observed in Haifa and Tel Aviv

The following brief video shows Tel Aviv — before and after. Israel got a taste of what it has done to the Palestinians in Gaza; it was a painful morsel.

The video, OF COURSE, isn't on YouTube. I can't seem to grab the URL, you'll have to go to the above website, by Larry Johnson, former CIA officer, to watch the video.

I heard an interesting talk by Ted Postol, emeritus physics professor MIT, and former advisor to USA military on weapons and security. He seems to know a lot about nuclear weapons, explosives, missiles, satellite surveillance and all that.

The first thing he explained was that the BIGGEST hurdle to making a nuclear weapon was enriching to about 3% U235, because there's SO much dross to get rid of. But since each enrichement step uses previously enriched material, each step gets easier and easier. It's true what they say: It only takes one more step to go from 60% to 90%.

He also estimated the size of a cylinder required to remove 400 kg (about 900 lb) of that 60% U235: About the size of whst we called a "shorty" compressed gas cylinder. It would EASILY fit into a Prius.

He spoke about the likelihood of a bombing attack on Fordow being successful. The bombs were aimed at the vent tubes coming up from the cavern. But he spoke about the various design features that could foil that attack - vents with right angles in them, expansion chambers, baffles and blast doors. Those features would cause the hot gases and blast wave to be redirected upwards, back out the vents. The reason why he believes those features were built in is bc pilots reported seeing a HUGE glow from the bombing. A successful strike would have most of that happening underground, invisibly. He also referred to our multiband infrared satellites (with picture. My god those are HUGE. Bigger than a small room! Imagine lofting THOSE into space!) that can detect and classify all kinds of explosions in terms of temperature and duration. FOR SURE our military and CIA know what happened at Fordow. Apparently, the only person who talked to him about this was TULSI GABBARD.

And finally, he spoke about the vulnerability of those centrifuges. It isn't what I thought. Uranium hexafluoride, UF6, the molecule used to separate U235 isotope from U238, is actually mostly a solid at room temperature. If you shut down the centrifuges without emptying them first, the UF6 solidifies on the centrifuge walls.
